I've got a personal copy of Tru64 Unix and a shot at a one or more (relatively) inexpensive Alpha Servers. That's Alpha as in DEC/Compaq/HP. Somewhere, I remember Brian the Fist talking about Alphas as being swifter than swift for Distributed Folding, and Jodie, in a recent post, said that that should certainly be the case. However...
Before I plunk down the hard-earned bucks, I'd like to hear from someone who has actually used one (or more) for DF. I'm figuring that if they run appreciably faster that a good AMD-powered PC, then it may be worth the aforementioned bucks to have it all in one hardware basket. Less heat, less noise, less room, etc, etc.
Thought I'd start by asking locally, as it were. If no luck here, I'll try the DF board. Anyone got the goods? :help:
