View Full Version : Ok I'm in, in a small way...

Ok, instead of putting more firepower on my main project, D2OL, I've decided to see if I could chase someone else in this project.

So, I've thrown one dual Xeon 2.8GHz HT on this project and we'll see if this project behaves nicely.

As of right now, I am liking this project because all I need to do is to start the script using the " -copies " flag and it'll launch 4 copies of think to utilize all four CPUs. Eggcellent

Next, can someone please point me to some stats so that I can see if I have set the client up correctly. Thank you and lets get Rollin....

Wow, thanks IB for all those links.

Now, I will just sit back and see my account climb from page two to page one.

You made sure to put your team number in as 2020 right?

:p

I'm in for a couple of boxes, too.

But - got a question about user # - does FaD ssign a new user number to each PC that the software is installed on?
<edit>
I answered my own question - both a work box and a home box are running this with the same member nick and email - it has assigned me two user ID numbers. What problems will this cause, and how do I get around it? I may want to run this on a bunch of other boxes.....

- and - how long does it take to show up in the stats. One of the boxes has already finished a WU, but I don't see anything either under Members or Teams. I did put the team # 2020 in the setup box.

Jkusuda

willy1,

Fad does assign a different member # for each box. The stats are updated 4x daily at about 6am, 12pm, 6pm, and midnight. Sometimes wu's won't show up in an update but will usually show up within 2 updates.

Hope this helps.

btw...Welcome aboard PY 222 and willy1. Glad to have you crunching with us!!!

ONLY 4 times a day? What a cheesy stats setup!!:swear:
What do they expect a stats ho to do for 6 hours??

OK- seriously now - how is credit granted/ranked? by gigaflops? jobs? hits? something else?

CaptainMooseInc

Check the main stats page of FaD. They rate you in GFlops. There are all sorts of other stats it takes down that you can "sort by". The official stats for FaD rankings are GFlops, but if you wanna track something else yourself then you can. ;)

FaD only updates that many times a day because it only needs to update that much. The server(s) that handle everything for FaD are good enough to get the job done, but they don't really go above and beyond...

Donate $10,000 and request the money be used for more frequent stat updates otherwise. :D <---joking so plz don't get mad.

Hope you have fun w/ FaD! I love it!

-Jeff

P.S. Don't worry about the Client ID numbers you get. The only time that will cause a problem is if you add the stats to your signature like I have at the bottom of every post I have. When you add another ID you have to have Bok change how his stats update. I don't figure you'll add the FaD sig to your title so no worries there!

IB, those links for the stats.free-dc.org are not functioning on the current server. They do work if you map to the new server though :)

Not too sure if I configured the client correctly but I am still not moving in the stats.

I'll give this another day and if it doesn't show, I'm moving back to D2OL.

Bok-

What's a good link to the current 'real' Free-DC stats? I can't seem to find one....

at the moment

http://stats.free-dc.org/fad

until we move.

If you wish to do some local dns to point

http://stats.free-dc.org to 70.84.240.122

you are more than welcome to look at the new version of all the stats

using the links IB provided will give you up to date ones then :)

I haven't finished a frontpage yet, but otherwise they all use the same php scripts, just alter the proj parameter accordingly.

Anybody who does this, then comments are welcome

On the first link, I got a blank stats page, and the IP address got me to 'Lenny the Boxer' .

Bok

Yeah, looks like the FAD stats are down. This doesn't fail on the new ones.

I think you haven't understood though. You need to change your local dns to make it point to that IP.

On linux edit

/etc/hosts

and add a line as

70.84.240.122 http://stats.free-dc.org

in windows do the same to file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

then use the URL

http://stats.free-dc.org/new/teampage.php?proj=fad&team=Free-DC

or

http://stats.free-dc.org/new/projpage.php?proj=fad

It's going to lennytheboxer because that is the first website in my apache virtual hosts config :)

What does your queue say you have done?

Make sure in FADSetup you have team number as 2020 on the general tab.

If your queue says Finished this doean't mean it has returned the WU you need to check your Internet Connection Plan.

If you have an always on connection then have this set for When Online and it will upload as soon as the WU finishes.

Let us know if you have any questions dude we need the crunchers and a dual running 4 instances should do well.

Foz

BTW what queries are you running?

willy1
12-02-2004, 04:23 PM
I think I read somewhere that the queue doesn't send any results until all the work in the queue is done, unless forced.

I saw this today on the duallie I set just set up. It kicked off 4 clients, had 16 WUs in queue, and after a couple of hours had finished WUs that hadn't been uploaded.

This is a WEIRD client to get used to. It does things differently - like if you open the graphics or queue window from the systtray icon, then try to close them again, it wants to quit, instead of just closing the window. You have to actually use the View option and uncheck the window name to get it to go away. Not friendly.

Also, even though I have returned work from 3 boxes, all the results look like they are from one member id. I was worried that something like this would happen. How can I tell from the project stats which box REALLY returned work?

And, even with hints from Bok, I'm still not sure I'm seeing any reality on any of the Free-DC stats pages. Nothing seem to agree with the project's stats. Some stats seem to use 'points' which don't seem to be anywhere on the project site stats, and the signature stats (like CaptainMoose has) doen't match anything I've found so far.

This will take some getting used to, for sure.

Can someone please point out how I can see my progress or even the Team number? I don't see it in any file in the folder. Also, where can I check my queue?

I am running RH ES release 3 and running the Linux version of FaD.

PY 222
12-02-2004, 04:47 PM
Ok, sorry folks. I think I've found out how to work this thing.

./fadsetup -list

Will list all information regarding this client

./server -list

Will list work that is done/in progress/in queue.

Thanks all. Will see if everything will go smooth sailing from now on.

CaptainMooseInc
12-02-2004, 04:53 PM
If you'd like to see the progress in a GUI form, open the FaD Control Panel and switch the view of the "Server" to Window. This will bring up the server program and all the current WUs you are working on have a percentage listed. It also has the date/time started listed. You'll also notice a colored bar on top of the date/time started and current. This will show you how far along the WU has gotten.

Willy, if your computer is connected to the internet all the time, make sure you have the "Internet Connection Plan" set up to "After selecting jobs"

This will automatically upload a WU -every- time it is completed.

You have something going on here:

I believe I ran into a couple WUs that took several days, however, I may be confusing it with a different project

Ok, I see myself now but now I have split accounts,

One is PY 222 and the other is PY 222;1

I wonder if my third one would be PY 222;2

How can I just put everything onto one account? Will the administrators merge accounts?

CaptainMooseInc
12-02-2004, 09:58 PM
Just send an e-mail to the admin of the site asking for your two accounts to be merged. I had 2 accounts once and they merged them no problem.

Make sure that you enter the SAME username everytime you install an instance of FaD. And make sure you use the same e-mail too.

-Jeff

willy1

I really don't want to belabor this stats thing, but I can't figure it out!

The find-a-drug.co.uk site shows my stats as:

6749 willy1 7004263 33000 7 283 67918 1.10
Which is 33,000 GFlops, 7 Jobs, 283 Hits, 67,918 Molecules, and 1.10 Days

and Bok's stats show me with 4,125 of 'something' -

They both show 7 jobs completed.

What's up? Which measurement is the real standing?

CaptainMooseInc
12-02-2004, 11:55 PM
GFlops is official for FaD.

Bok's stats are weird. I haven't quite figured out how we're scored on his stats, but it matches with the stats on FaD when it comes to ranking so I don't question it.

-Jeff

Fozzie

order by Points on the official stats page you will see they tally with the points on Bok's.

12-03-2004, 11:13 AM
Well, DOH ! :bang:

The official stats page didn't even show such a thing as points - who was to know the 'Rank By' box had selections for non-visible categories?

PY 222
12-03-2004, 12:26 PM
Ok, finally, I see my two boxes delivering work and helping out the team.

I'll send an email to the Project Admins to see if they can merge my two accounts together.

Lets roll folks. :smoking:

I just looked at Bok's FaD stats page.

PY 222, if you're only in this DC project in a SMALL way, I don't want to see in a BIG way.

You're outproducing everyone on the team (not combined). No one single person has a higher output that you (only Jkusuda comes close).

At this rate you'll jump up to the top in NO TIME AT ALL!!!

GO PY!!!!

A very substantial portion of my crunching fleet is doing D2OL and that is my main project.

Over here, I have only 4 machines crunching FaD although all 4 are dual Xeons 2.8GHz HT. I already have plans to deploy a few more machines onto this project.

My goal is to see Free-DC in Top 10 and I believe we all can do it.

Jkusuda

That's the output of 4 2.8 Xeon boxen? I think I'm getting ripped of with my 3.0 and 2.2 Xeon's. I might have to rush the new computer channel open and push through the other xeon boxen that were due.:D

Trying to keep my machines online so you don't :spank: me to badly. Trying to catch Paratima now!!!
