Thanks!
Looking at a Supermicro SC743T-R760 case after the burn in is over.
Yup, running it on the mobo box for awhile :rotfl:

I am using a PCI ATI Rage2 video card.
I guess it needs the newest fancy video card interface.

Windows XP 64 bit edition won't install (reboots during driver searching)
Windows XP Professional won't install (pci.sys)
Windows 2000 Professional works but only two processors show up in task manager
Both physical and logical can be used with H/T enabled in the BIOS tho :D

Replaced that video card to see if pci.sys problem would go away, didn't.
Picked up a ATI Radeon X700 Pro :D

I downloaded the latest Windowx XP 64bit edition with support for these Xeons...
Got it installed !!! w00t! :D

Then noticed the network wasn't working :(
Went searching for drivers, found nothing that works, then read this on another site...
"We tested a new server system fitted with two 3.6GHz EM64T processors and the new Intel Tumwater E7525 chipset to support the new features, and saw that the latest 64bit beta of Windows still lacks vital driver software needed to make a functional server system."

There are no 64 bit drivers for Intels flagship Ethernet 82546GB controller! :bang:

Back to Windows 2000 for a bit longer I guess...

Changed my mind, there is only one OS that will take advantage of the hardware.
Installed SUSE :D
So far, so good.

Yup IB if in doubt install your favourite flavour or *nix

The newest version of Suse is pretty swanky, even without the need for 64bit code. :)

Found a driver over on HP site :D
Installed it under XP64, rebooted and :|party|:

On SOB, it gets about ~700,000 cEMs/sec more output!

IB,

Did you evaluate the Asus NCCH Xeon mobo before going with the Supermicro? I was just curious because we're getting ready to put up another server.

The other question that I had because I can't seem to find the answer is whether the NCCH was 64 bit enabled since it is based on the 875 chipset.

No, I did not look at any other motherboard, Asus or otherwise.
Went straight for the SuperMicro motherboard and case ;)

Dual XEON (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=164&item=6738128102&rd=1)

looks ok, well until you convert it into US$ it does.

It sounds a bit cheap to me.....

The Xeons in there probably aren't HT capable.
I have a similar machine under my desk at work.

Also the diamond fire GL might have been a good card in its day but it doesn't cut the mustard anymore.

The buy price is £350.00 but there is a £35 shipping cost and 17.5% VAT
Thats £452

It's an OK price but not a bargain.

Yes see what you mean, still should do some nice crunching figures...

Xeon's were HT enabled with the introduction of the 2.2ghz model. All Xeon's above 2.2ghz are HT enabled. Anything below 2.2ghz is not HT enabled.

Xeon 1.6GHz are HT capable. (512KB L2 Cache)
Intel® Xeon™ Processor with 256KB L2 Cache are not.

My bad on that HT info. I didn't realize they did that with the MP's. Thanks for the correction IB.
