View Full Version : Bug removed, update of stats every minute

So, finally, I was able to pin point the bug in the update script, and remove it. My perl script was taking around a minute or two to update the database from the server files. I won't go into details, but really the origin of problem was that I had used the "break" command in perl, thinking that it works the same as in C,C++(brings you out of loop). I know, that "last" does that job in perl, but somehow this small thing just did not figure to me while i was using different method to optimize the script. That was one of the major reason you guys were getting communication errors, as the update script took quite a bit of CPU usage. Now it takes less then 1 sec, to do the job;)

I had a sound sleep today, and i think now you should not see communication errors. And if you still see, Omer, your turn :bs: :elephant:

Me too, just showed up in the last hour or so.

I'll give it another hour then I'm going to have to switch most of the boxen back to D2OL until it's resolved.

Jeb I just noticed it too!

Only a couple of times but the last waited 3 times for 60seconds!

Why don't run the stats update less frequently?

Maybe like every 15min? seems to be one of the biggest problems right now..or?

Agreed, 15 mins or even 30 is more real time than virtually any other project anyway.

yep, this little gremlin is definitely knocking everyones performance down anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3rds. Do you have any estimate on this, or is this one of those problems that you have to dig on for an unknown period of time?

unfortunately, the latter seems to be the case here...

have to do a lot of :bang: and :swear: and maybe with some :help:, i hopefully will figure it out :D

P.S No promises, but i will try to get it all done over the weekend (luck will play a major role in that)!

i havent been paying attention but is it running at all now?

I ask because i don't feel like switching over to anything and would rather just do the little work I'm getting now.

Ah so...................... :( Well in that case I think I shal move systems to TSC or something until you get something resolved. It would be nice if you could post a note here to let us know when to pour on the coals again.

Yeah, looks like it is down, no stats updates for the last 4 hours.

I've switched all my machines to D2OL (I think!)
