I think I read in another forum that the server had been hacked- they may be trying to repair the damage.

from http://www.piqsoftware.com/:

3/4/2005
Tiny KeyCounter Temporarily Unavailable
Around 12:45 EST on March 3rd, a small security vulnerability in the Tiny KeyCounter web server was exploited. No serious harm was done and we have no reason to believe that any private or sensitive data was compromised. However, until the entire attack can be backtraced and thoroughly investigated, the TKC service will be offline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Server is back again!

We're Back!
Following the recent attack on the TKC site, we have restored everything back to its original state when the server was taken offline. No sensitive or private data was compromised during the attack, and no lasting damage has been done.

We have taken this opportunity to update several minor areas of the site and make some performance upgrades. If you encounter any problems, please let us know on the PiQ Forums (http://www.piqsoftware.com/dev/).

And down I again. I can't submit (and couldn't yesterday). Their homepage doesn't give any clue about that.

Hope I don't have a "buffer overflow" ;)

you're not mistaken. I haven't been able to upload for 3 days now.

Forgot to look at their forums:

Nothing that interesting I'm afraid. Someone dug up the cable line to the building where the server is located, so we're without Internet access until that gets fixed. Current estimate is Saturday.

So this issue should be fixed soon...

Darn Hmm digging up cables eh..
:|ot|: (a bit)
I get that all the time at work normally it's a camera that goes out somewhere and we gotta book a time and get invoice numbers to go fix it as it could be anything... We Asked for them to be buried properly.. Hmm don't ask they weren't and well sometimes we lose whole remote sites, due to such things as Rain and someone out cutting the grass verges near the remote sites..
:rant:BT in it's "Infinite" wisdom can't joint to save itself and erm doesn't bury phone calls to "temp" site hmm temp being anything under hmm 5 yrs or so....

Now it's sunday, at least here in Austria...

The issue didn't get fixed :(

I think it'll take until the next few days... hopefully :Pokes:

You have big enough harddisks to store your keystrokes :D

Server is away again... can't upload keystrokes

No information on piqsoftware.com available because their "Forums temporarily closed"... but I swear I was able to see the content of the forum one minute before... however, hopefully it comes back again soon, else another thing is on my "to uninstall" list :Pokes:

wirthi

I can't upload either. And I guess what you saw of the forum was a cache-hit. I have seen the "Forums temporarily closed" more then 6 hours ago too ....

the-mk
12-20-2005, 04:40 PM
maybe possible, but:
my cache is only 5 MB sized and I didn't visit that page after upgrading from firefox 1.0.7 to 1.5...

however, the server is down and we don't know why...

The server is back up, I was able to send in results.

yippie! Server is back!

But there are some issues with the stats (http://keycount.piqsoftware.com/teams/details.php?team=Free-DC):
- we are only 8 people (who sent something in the year 2006)
- we have 47 unranked people
- if you click to the list of the unranked, you only see a few people, but never 47...
- and their forum (http://www.piqsoftware.com/dev/forums/) doesn't work correctly

PY,

did you submit the TKC client in the new year 2006?

Looks like, only submissions from 2006 are listed...

CaptainMooseInc

It appears as TKC is having troubles once again...

This is getting OLD. Good thing it doesn't really matter how long I have to hold onto my keystrokes....just as long as the project comes back up.

Some news from the frontpage (http://www.piqsoftware.com/):

2/17/2006
This morning the OS hard drive in the main TKC web site server failed. Currently the server is completely offline, and will require a complete operating system rebuild before the site is available again.

The good news is that our database backups account for all but about 15 hours worth of submissions data. It is possible (but not certain) that we will be able to recover all of the data and restore everything to its state as of the time of the crash.

Unfortunately, the TKC budget is currently empty. Replacing the hard drive in the server will require time and money that are not available. If you would like to help accelerate this process, we gladly appreciate your generous donations.

Donate here (http://www.piqsoftware.com/savetkc.asp) to the TKC Server Hard Drive fund.

In the event that the data is not recoverable, or if we are unable to fund the replacement drive in a timely manner, the TKC service will remain offline until the TKC2.0 beta program starts.

Looks like it will be offline for a longer period of time :(

I didn't recognize the outage of the server because I've stopped the client a while ago or I didn't install it after the "format c:"-thing :D

Jeff, I hope the programmer of TKC defined the variables, which store the counters, large enough to not start from -2^16 or something like that :lmao:

Some news from http://keycount.piqsoftware.com/:

Help the cause! Donate to the TKC2.0 development project
(The cause, of course, being to count silly statistics, which of course is vital to the continued survival of the human race.)

What's Going On Here?
After the recent hard drive failure, we've taken a careful look at the state of the TKC2.0 update project, and decided that the best course of action is to keep the service offline until the TKC2.0 release is ready.

Should I Just Stop Using 1.61 Then?
Definitely not! Your stats can still be collected...

I've got over 1,100,000 key strokes waiting to go up to the server for the "older" stats - I'm looking foward to the new client though, especially with the mouse milelage - playing games helps there :)

I'm anxious to when the client is coming, maybe sooner, maybe later...
