ok, I have never run this project but I feel that this is going to end up being the first project we do.

Being that I have never run this project I don't have a feel for it's WUs or it's scoring system so I propose we run it for a month and see what happens.

Im in with this stat booster thing you guys got going, im not really all that dedicated to any project really so it will be good for me. I guess ill just switch over to UD now then. I'll keep an eye out for any changes that take place.

I'm fine for running this right now, a month seems a bit long but i guess that can be worked out once we see how much we're actually doing.

I guess there is no harm in switching to it now. Others can read this and join.

As of this post we are ranked in points number 707. I say we aim for the top 500 at least. Dunno how much firepower were gonna have.......

birdman2584

well, if we can get enough window gardeners together, we may be able to make quite a dent. Im up for trying to get to a rank of 500, but like you said black_civic, well just play it by ear for right now.

The reason I say a month is that gives us enough time to guage how the project performs for us just in case we want to run it again in the future.

EDIT: Now that I have it running, are there any tweaks to maximize it's performance?

EDIT2: Bok, can you add UD to my stats? Thanks!

UD is the devil...

It's too bulky IMO.

FaD is a nice compact equivalent that does so much more...

D2OL is awesome too

I think some DC projects just aren't worth it...

Will do, I actually need to fix the UD stats today, they've been broken for a while.

These Wu's are rather big....are their any possibilties to speed the client up?

with UD you need more RAM to get more points, so run it on a box with loads. Also play with the setting in your user area, increase the HDD usage for more points.

:D

black_civic55
03-21-2005, 12:45 PM
Since im not thattttttt great with computers what is a good point to change the HDD usage to?

my computer has 23 GB free

is it safe to change the usage to 10GB??

Helix_Von_Smelix
03-21-2005, 12:46 PM
10GB is fine, set it to 15 if you like. it will never use more than a few Mb

black_civic55
03-21-2005, 02:25 PM
i just realized I'd be in 5th place if our scores transfered over from other teams. My agent says i have a total of 355,651 points.

Helix_Von_Smelix
03-21-2005, 02:27 PM
iirc you can't transfer points from one team to another..

stands back and waits for that to sink in:bang: :bang: :bang: :swear: :swear:

Just a note to all of you.

Rosetta Application uses ~26M Real Memory and ~200M Virtual Memory so it's better to crunch some cancer wu's.

I'm a bit lost as to the purpose of this post. Fad and D2OL don't need our help. The purpose of this team is competitive crunching in projects that we rank low on. Most of us don't crunch for merit or any particular reason, we crunch competively.

black_civic55

he was just stating an opinion, i think he knew what were doing, no big deal.

D2OL is so big though. I happily run it but its just monstrous.

I dont understand how UD is bulky though. Its probly one of the only projects that doesn't randomly shut off my computer too.

I noticed there's a gauntlet stats page on the site somewhere, maybe that could be put to good use.;)

I took a look last night, but can't figure out why they are not resetting the daily scores. I put some trace in for today. should show the problem hopefully.

I wrote the gauntlet stats, don't think they would help here. If you can figure out what you'd like to see give me a shout.

Added UD to your's and Thor's personal stats...

so what do we all have running on UD to help out?

right now i only have 2 computers running it but will get one or two more within the week. what bout everyone else??

can you give me a brief description of this project and how the client works and how long it would run for?

if it is discrete like Find A Drug then I may be able to utilise some non-live xeons to crunch for a bit...

Ok, i may be able to do something over this coming bank-holiday weekend.

If someone can link me to the correct download page ill grab it and take a look.

Anyone have specifics as to what makes it tick best? higher cpu, more ram etc...

You can cache some wu's using UD Monitor (http://udmon.sourceforge.net/).

The cancer portion of this project leaves a bad taste in my mouth, mainly because of the things I've read at FaD, so I'm forced to ask:

(1) Can you choose to JUST run the folding portion?

(2) Is the scoring the same for both projects?

(3) When's the gauntlet?

(1) Yes. Go to My Device Manager/Profiles and choose whatever you want to crunch.

(2) Go here (http://forum.grid.org/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=22).

(3) Now. AMD processors are good here.;)

gauntlet started the other day but its not the same as old gauntlets. we are the gauntleteers!!! we aim at projects for a certain amount of time or till a certain goal is atained. Right now we are doing UD for about a month or untill top 500.

Leviathann
03-22-2005, 10:37 PM
I was thinking earlier that we don't necessarily have to limit ourselves to projects that FreeDC is doing, we could always jump start new ones.;)

black_civic55
03-22-2005, 11:00 PM
What sorts of projects would you have in mind for that?? That is kinda what we did for DIMES. Relatively new project that we all jumped on early and are building a substancial lead.

Leviathann
03-22-2005, 11:16 PM
Give me a little bit and I'll look some up.

EDIT:

This is the best resource for projects we can do.

Currently running DC projects can be found here: http://distributedcomputing.info/projects.html

Upcoming DC projects can be found here: http://distributedcomputing.info/upcoming.html

This is the only new project I have found that seems to provide stats: http://burp.boinc.dk/

I didn't really do any in depth searching but I skimmed over the 'upcoming' projects and BURP was the only one that I found immediately interesting.

well within the next few days we will be slowly passing some teams and i mean slowly......

anyone got some spare power or anyone want to join the gauntleteers???

birdman2584
03-24-2005, 10:59 AM
yeah, i noticed the same thing...we might pass some of those teams in the next couple of days. I'm thinking about moving onto another project, i guess ill just wait to see what happens in the next few days.

Come on man, we are almost at the end of our first week!

black_civic55
03-24-2005, 12:45 PM
we'll get this ball rollin, remember this is only our first project. We only have a few people in the gauntleteers right now. When we get more people everything will be fine. Just stick with the main goal for now.

On our current pace we would have made 1 million points in the next 3 weeks. that puts us close to 500. Obviously other teams are creating output too but i think we'll be in good shape.

Leviathann
03-24-2005, 01:11 PM
Did you check BURP out?

em99010pepe
03-24-2005, 01:36 PM
I'm sorry to say but I moved all machines to RC-72.

Our rate on UD is too low, I don't see more people joining us when there's only a windows client.:bang:

ughh should we just give up then since its only windows clients??

maybe try and do some projects where more people can be involved. Come back to UD mayb when we have more firepower???

Yes i signed up for BURP yesterday but as of right now they have no work

If you want more people involved the DC project shoud run in all OS's. Eric, this is my opinion, I could be wrong.

RC-72 is a good one. Maybe TOP100? 200,000 blocks away.

its reasonable, i was figuring we were so far behind in UD that even a small amount would bring us quickly up but not too far up

I'll do RC since you said you already switched yours over.

Everyone else agree?

The good thing about Dnet is that you now can create a sub-team of Free-DC, something called Free-DC Gauntleteers! People would only need an email address to set up the client.

Have you guys tried installing/running UD by using wine, crossover office, or cedega?
