OK - I seem to be in possession of a couple of Intel CPU's - one 2.66 Ghz and one at 3.0 Ghz - both HT. Anyone have suggestions on a fairly inexpensive motherboard to build these up in? They'll just be crunchers - sound isn't even a consideration...

Grrr - Athlon 64 project is on hold.
Grrr - Dual xeon 2.0 project is on hold.
Grrr - Dual xeon 1.7 Ghz overclock project is on hold.
Grrr - 4 x Sun UltraSparc 10's project is on hold.

Everything waiting on parts of one sort or another, and I'm running out of network cables, (and places to plug them in)...

Can't help re: the mobos, but re: "places to plug them in" (assuming you meant network plugs...), this week I picked up the 8 port Gigafast switch for $12 + shipping - $8 rebate. I see its out of stock at Newegg and they raised the price to $18 to cover the $.99 shipping ( ), but it seems likely the price will drop next Tues. after the shipping deal ends, and the new rebate is $7 good through May 15.

And re: "running out of network cables", me too! I thought this weekend I'd take advantage of the $.99 shipping for $2 cables. Of course if you're handy w/a crimper...buy the 1000 foot roll!

Asus mobo's are my favorite although those are the only ones I've used. As for network cabling, I would like to know how the Cat 6 cabling works out, maybe you could do some testing for us.

MerePeer, how is that switch working out for you?

Heh - don't have any hard drives at the moment (some on the way, though), or any ddr400 RAM so I'm running a 3.0 Ghz P4 with 128 MB of DDR 266 RAM, from a Knoppix Live CD.

It's actually RC5-72-ing pretty good at the moment....
