Whats Causes "islands" in the Dimes graph display? It seems I have several results that aren't attached to my trace route point of origin. Is this a normal function of the dimes program? Until recently everything was shown with connecting lines.

Please advise.

LichtJF, it is possible the graph islands that you are seeing are due to the fact that Dimes occasionally clear the graphs of older nodes to allow new ones to be displayed.

Hence once the old nodes gets cleared, the newer nodes that are connected via the old nodes to your Agent gets severed and hence creating island of nodes.

I am not certain 100% but this could be a possibility.

Thank you for that information. Having little islands pop up makes for an interesting display. It does make my mind easier to know that it isnt a problem with my install. A glitch I can live with.:notworthy

What do the "Unknowns" mean on the graphs that get made? Are those ISPs they can't identify or are those new ASes and ASLinks they don't have info on yet and we "discovered" them. I have all kinds of UNKNOWNS showing up.

i think its something that cant be identified

My pc always comes up unknown because I do not let it's netbios name past my firewall. I will assume all other unknowns are machines configured the same way.

The node islands is a known bug from the Dimes fora. They hope to have this fixed in 4.0 release.

As my other Team mates (BOINC Synergy) have stated, nice stats and info on your fora.

BOINC Synergy could always disassemble and assimilate into the Free-DC Borg Collective. We'd really take a giant leap ahead and never be caught! Ha!

I thought about switching, just for DIMES, but then PCZ started pumping out 60k+/day ... and even though the team produces less ... i sorta like being the top daily producer :)

Don't worry about PCZ. He just have alot of puters.

All you need to do is to get more machines than him and you'll be our No. 1 producer.

Good luck, and we'll be here waiting for you.

i'm afraid i'm pretty much at the limit for machines. Although my acounts says there's 30 or 31 ... 3 are duplicates (which i asked to have merged, but no one seems to have gotten around to it) and a few more are offline for te summer.

Maybe i'll win the lottery (a few times) and scatter a thousand DIMES computers around the globe :)

Good Luck ffenliv, I think my pc's crunching time is better spent on other projects. Thanks for all the great advice that I recieved from Free-DC. You guys are all right! If I didn't like Boinc Synergy so much, I might have switched.

Keep on crunching!

LichtJF, its sad to see you leave this project.

Perhaps when this project gets out of Beta you might want to reconsider coming back.

Take care. :hifi:

deffinetly think about coming back!! it uses no resources so there is no problem! but yea wait till its out of beta

No resources :harhar:, only 52 MB of ram as seen by the javaw.exe client under task manager.

But it doesnt matter. I will think about re-evaluating if it seems reasonable down the road. Right now, its time to play with projects that cure disease.
