OK, here's the deal. While I want to see us continue to gain new users, I'm also trying to find ways to encourage our existing users to increase their own production.

With that in mind, I'm wondering what you guys think of this:

I'll donate a week's worth of production on a pair of 2ghz P4s to another user's account. How does that user get choosen? I propose the following:

The winner will be the one who has increased his 72 hour average the most after one week from the day that the contest starts.

Only users with less than a 1,000,000/day 72 hour average are eligible (this is aimed primarily at our 'normal' users, rather than the big guns).

The winner must have increased his 72hr average by at least 20%. This means that if you do 250,000/day at the beginning, you have to do at least 300,000/day at the end to be eligible. If no one makes at least a 20% improvement, no one wins. ;)

So? Is anybody interested? If so, I'll take a look at making some stats available to show who's increased and by how much each day of the week that the contest would run.

Do the terms seem unfair? Does anybody else have a different idea, or a change to this one?

We need to continue to expand our production. I'm willing to donate some of mine to aid in the cause.

This is still just an idea, not a done deal. So let's hear what you guys think...

Hi Dyyryath

i will also contribute a week of a Dual PIII 933 Mhz to the prize - just to make it a bit more lucrative to those that may be interested :)

I'll throw a week of dual 1 GHz PIII in the pot.

Ah! Things are shaping up nicely!

As of right now, we're talking about a week's worth of production on:

2 x P4 2000mhz
2 x P3 1000mhz (Single SMP Box)
2 x P3 933mhz (Single SMP Box)

So let's hear from those who might be competing. You can't win and we can't provide the prize unless users want to sign on to compete...

since i can't compete, i'll donate two Celeron - 1.1 Ghz for one week for the prize :)

FoBoT: Who says you can't compete? You're eligible, buddy! :)

Yow! So I'd hafta go from my current 550 to at least 660. Hmmmmm.

OK, I'm in, but define your terms: is "most increase" in numbers or percentage?

Also, I think you better wait at least a week after the protein change so that everybody is "in the groove".

Oh, and keep an eye on Angus. :p

Ah, FoBoT, you're just busy elsewhere, I take it? I just took a quick look at your current average. No offense, intended, I assure you. ;)

Feel free to add your procs to the prize.

So...since you obviously ARE a big gun, when are you coming back to DF? ;) :D

on thursday when the new protein is out, of course if the new protein is too slow, hitting 1 million/day might be tough for anybody

Yeah, I'll have to take a look at the color scale once we get the new protein up and running. It may need a little 'adjustment'. ;)

Very nice pot.

Good luck, it will be interesting to see how this works out.

IB: you will, of course, give us the dirt on the .13 AthlonXP (I assume this is a thoroughbred)? I saw the XP2200 was announced with .13 but it wasn't refered to as the thoroughbred (not by AMD, just the news site reporting it didn't point this out) so I wasn't sure what the deal was.

Should run cool and yield high at .13, eh? (cool being relative, in the case of an Athlon cool indicates that you can only cook a couple eggs on it, rather than a dozen).

I'd be up for the challenge. Although I don't know if I could actually do it. If I could though, would it matter if I could only keep it up for a few weeks?

MAD-ness - Absolutely I'll let ya know how it works out when I get it in a couple of weeks.
Yes, it will be the new breed of AMD "Thoroughbred" Athlons, model XP2200.
$215
http://www.cbwnet.com/

According to unofficial sources, AMD is planning to unveil the Athlon XP 2200+ at 1800 MHz and with a Palomino core in the near future. The reason? Older roadmaps claim that the successor to the Palomino, the 'Thoroughbred,' is long overdue.

Rumors I'm hearing say it will be a .18,
I'll cancel my order and wait if that turns out to be true...
