That's right, one big hellacious mistake.

FreeDc moved up one position to 282 in Trial Factoring.

Just a little peak of things to come.

Can you explain me how to run and install GIMPS?

Thanks in advance,

Carlos

OK, if there is any of this you do not understand, just ask.

First, download the latest version of Prime95 from here (http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=3934) . It says it is a beta, but I am using it on all machines. Download p95v2411.zip if your running any form of Windows. If not, use the appropriate software, including one of the 64 bit versions if your OS and CPU are 64 bit.

Then follow the install here (http://www.teamprimerib.com/faq/gimps.Windows.Install.php) . Use FreeDC as the team name and "go-4-it" as the password.

I suggest putting only 1 day in the PrimeNet box so you can get out quick if you want to.

Whooooaa!!

 Is it possible!!

FreeDC has moved up 4, count them, 4 places in Trial Factoring.

And, yes, AND, it is in the Top 100 producing TF teams. In fact it is #55!!

Let the FreeDC elephants dance!! :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant:

MonsterMan,

Thanks for the tutorial. Just started factoring.
One question. Where can I see the ranking?

Cheers,

Carlos

Unfortunately, FreeDC doesn't have any and the project itself was developed prior to the stats craze.

But, I look at Team Prime Rib's stats here (http://www.teamprimerib.com/rr1/bin/top.php?type=f) .

Right now FreeDC is ranked 279, but that will change quickly. What we are shooting for is to be on this page (http://www.teamprimerib.com/rr1/bin/top_over.php) . The overtake page of TPR.

Thanks for joining in on the biggest challenge FreeDC wil ever have!!

We've moved up 20 positions so far. I think that deserves a toast.

How does 219, up +62 for the week sound?

Oh, and we're number 4 on the Factoring threat / overtake list now.....

Just think how much better it would be if I could get a little help.:elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant:

You've got some. Why do you think I said "we"? I guess as the GIMPS team captain, I felt a little obligated to help....

I will have to admit that I'm going to be a little "light" for a while, since I've committed to helping out with the pending DPC barbeque. I'm going to be pretty heavily tied up there for at least a while as I'm planning to contribute a million points in June...

So my evil plans for doing things like totally p0wning in BOINC Seti, or restarting GIMPS LL testing are going to have to wait.....

Cool.

Now kick FreeDC_014 and Carlos in the derriere and we can get this bitch moving.

Dunno who FreeDC_014 is.

You have some stats somewhere to look at that show a breakdown of the team?

All I really have is the mersenne.org link, and I can't figure out a way to show team members on the TPR site, if there is a way....

EDIT:

Got it. Looking in the wrong place....

Up +6 to overall position # 213

Moved up two notches on the overtake list - we're now the second most dangerous overtake threat that ARS has....

Of course we're only something like 2,300 CPU years behind them.....

Anyone have any idea if DPC is on the list of teams somewhere? If so, where are they in relation to us? Might we sneak up on them some during the stampede?

 How the heck did FoBot get his name as the team captain, with MY email address shown???

MonsterMan

I'm not sure if this is "the" DPC or not, though.

--------------------total points--------TF points
1133. dpc..............166.452.......223.....2.886.........8.........568.79

You can find the point totals and rankings at this location.
GIMPS, PrimeNet (http://mersenne.org/ips/tops.shtml)

It seems that the DPC have not really found Gimps or they do not believe in the project.

ALSO, we have another factor. :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant:

Factors are good things, very good!!

FreeDC trial factoring has moved up to #205.

THis also moves FreeDC up to #248 for the entire project. LL and Trial factoring combined.

248. FreeDC ... 474.846

The more the merrier! :|party|: Welcome!

Not that we can really ever catch TPR, but it'll be fun trying - I'd like to see Free-DC make the top 100 at least. (TPR produces something like 67 CPU years per day overall in Gimps.)

Remember to use ver. 24.11 when you trial factor. This is the fastest version.

Also, use the proper version for your system and OS. Use the 64 bit version if you have a 64 bit processor AND OS. If you are using a 32 bit OS, use that version.

And welcome to all.

Excellent job on that factor, Cap'n.

MonsterMan,

Did you test the new version 24.12?

Ahh, it's refreshing to see activity in GIMPS again.

We've moved to position 200 in Trial Factoring - one heck of a move in the last week or so...

Glad to have Carlos and Birdman helping out, and many thanks to MonsterMan for stirring up some interest (as well as tossing some major CPU cycles into the mix).

Yumm! Barbeque! No.... Wait.... Wrong project that. Never mind.

Same question here MonsterMan - have you compared .11 against .12? Is there really an advantage to factoring with .11 ?

em99010pepe

Another question. Which type of processor is faster on factoring, AMD or Intel?

Carlos

MonsterMan
06-01-2005, 02:19 PM
No, I haven't tried .12. In my understanding that is a fix for Linux based machines with 64 bit communication problems. Since both have the trial factoring benchmarks, you can run both and compare. I personally got a 3% increase in factoring speed with v. 24.11.

As to the fastest machines for trial factoring, it goes to CPU speed and SSE2 extensions. 64 bit AMD's are good, but still not as good as fast P4's.
