I thought I'd done this just running top in batch mode way back when, but I can't seem to do it now. All I want is the top 2 or 3 processes. Maybe that was on HP-UX or solaris, can't quite remember..
I'm just writing a simple script to give me the current status of a machine. I'll then dump this on all my linux boxen and then run it remotely on each via ssh in another script from a single machine.
uptime is an option which will at least show that the machine is at full load.
