Mac isn't the only alternative to Windows--what about Ubuntu and other Linux distros? :D I don't think I'll ever switch to a Mac because it's a closed system--you can't put it on a homebuilt computer, just one of the overpriced preconfigured boxes that they sell. And I always prefer to build my own computers whenever possible. :)
*nix rules! :D
*nix *not *user *friendly... *think *80 *something *;)
...done and done... (been signed that is.)
you must mean the very last one, ok, but the latest? last year or so, yes, yes i have.
Oh it's great to use, but now explain how to install a program found on the net; lets say ummmmm SiSoft.
many programs there, um, Sandra program.
edit: darn thing is only pay-fer now. But you get the idea? yeah?
SP3 AMD Reboot problem/solution
disclaimer: if it breaks anything, you own all the pieces ;)Quote:
Change a simple registry key (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IntelPPM\Start)
to the value of '4' to disable the IntelPPM service. This jives w/ the Microsoft solution of deleting / renaming the IntelPPM.sys driver for the service so it cannot start.
Yes but wait it's only meant to affect a SMALL number of PC's overall those AMD based ones where the OS was built from a Intel created Disc Image, surely it shouldn't HANG that bad oh wait it's a badly written OS it hangs at the slightest thing these days at least with 98 you knew what was hanging it and could disable it temporarily to get it to boot then you could kill it via MSCONFIG, that and you could easily replace the mobo boot it to safe mode (either mobo) and remove PnP device driver which EVERYTHING mobo related hung off, can you do that now not really :( TYPICAL let's improve this and they go break something that was useful (if you knew it was there).
SP 3 apparently offers you nothing new just all the patches together + some new bugs sorry features all of it's own...
I read somewhere it is possible to get a Vista LOOK without the Vista HEADACHE.
Windows requires you to change things through the command line. I kid, I kid..but true...
Grandma, go to the terminal and type in...um,well..grandma?
I try out Linux once a year. This year I'm actually impressed and it is the first time I haven't formatted it right away.
Too bad a millionaire had to be behind it to make it easy (Ubuntu).
:looney:
I don't want to sound like a salesman for this thing, but if you've got startup problems with ANY Windoze, go to winpatrol.com and get one of the slickest add-ons ever!
Lets you stop all sorts of nastinesses from creeping in, whether they come from MS or other.

You're quite welcome! It's a neat little package. Been using it for a couple of years on all my Windoze boxen and never had a glitch from it yet.
Yeah, it creates one more "Mother, may I?" when you install anything that sets up to run automatically or in the background, but at least you have a choice. :D
Microsoft has given another lease of life to Windows XP only days before PC makers have to stop selling it.
Windows XP reaches its end of life on 30 June but Microsoft has now said it can continue being sold until June 2010 but only on cheap desktops.
The decision follows one made in April to extend the life of XP on low cost laptops until the same date.
It comes as Dell, HP and Lenovo exploit loopholes in Microsoft's licensing terms to keep putting XP on machines.
I guess from here on out, Linux will be my default OS then. ;)
damn XP, save PPC and OS X ))
Save Bush :lmao:
broke your epilady - save bush ^____^

None of the resellers were accused of having stolen copies of Windows Vista.
Microsoft say it will not lower Vista prices at Ukraine. It's already cost $2, can't be cheaper than DVD-R.
