They mention only one person being used for this experiment, I wonder if there were others. It would suck to find out that there were other good methods, but that they weren't used for years because they didn't work on the first subject(s).

From what I've read, it doesn't usually work that way. VERY few therapies are effective on 100% of the population. This is known, and allowed for in most testing.
