just a question:

when and how often should your personal proxy stats (http://stats.free-dc.org/dnet/ogr/byemail.html) update?

Bok
02-14-2005, 05:32 PM
I have them set to run every 3 hours.

Please note that I didn't write these stats, they just take so long to run at the moment I had to change it to every 3 hours starting at 01:45.

However you did just spike my interest so I took a quick look at the perl script

They read through the daily files produced by the proxy, all of them, going back over a year now. But it looks like they just ignore the ones that have already been inserted into the DB. I don't know if that is what causes it to take so long or the DB access. Perhaps I'll take a look at it.

Many thanks! :notworthy

Now I know when I can expect a update :D

another question: this 01:45, is this GMT or GMT-8 or GMT+1 or GMT-6? Or let me ask it another way: what is 14:45 EST in GMT+/-x?

Bok
02-14-2005, 06:00 PM
It's CST or GMT - 6

That is where the server is located Dallas,Tx ;)

p.s. I just moved all of the logs from < Feb 2005 and ran the stats manually and it's still running after 30mins!! I guess I'll try and debug the thing.

In an effort to speed up the ppstats script I'm going to start purging users who haven't used it over a certain amount of time. I've already done a few that were over 2 years ago, I think I may set it to say 200 days max ?

Any objections ?

If I can pare it down somewhat and it runs in a reasonable amount of time, I'll let it run more often..

It's probably still in the domain table though..

Bok

ppstats appears to be broken. It's complaining about a duplicate entry for a yoyo account..... If yoyo reads this, are you pointing your proxy to the free-dc one ? I don't really mind, just need to know so I can try and accomodate.. Haven't really got the time to debug tonight, it'll have to be tomorrow.. :( Bok

Bok

IronBits

I think it sucks that another 'team' comes running over to another Team's pproxy server at the end of a project just because they didn't manage theirs properly and ran out, including messing up our pproxy server so that intervention was necessary to restore services for those that depend on it, but that's just me.

If folks had been coming in all the time, then no foul because we could have changed the allotment we were giving ourselves to keep it full enough for those that were using it daily so we could make corrections to the buffering, but to blatantly just come in and take what they want is foul, disrespectful and called stealing.

Didn't even have the common courtesy to ask permission first!

/me walks away in disbelief and total disgust

yoyo
10-18-2008, 04:32 AM
Sorry for that, the proxy was open to use. I was not aware that this is a team-only-proxy. I only got some thousands ogr to continue. I will never use it in future, sorry that I used it.
yoyo

IronBits
10-18-2008, 04:42 AM
It's not a TEAM ONLY PPROXY.
It's not an official project proxy server either.
We have folks from different teams working from the Free-DC proxy server, and we have never turned anyone away.

It's never OK to just attach to another personal proxy server and take what you want.
Most folks ask permission first when joining up, out of respect and common courtesy and to allow the administrators to adjust the cache level required.

As I said, if you had been taking work consistently all along, then we could have adjusted for what you use, no harm no foul.

You chose to just come in and take what you wanted, at the end of a project, to serve your needs and to hell with anyone else.

That is what I'm taking exception to.

yoyo
10-18-2008, 04:58 AM
Ok, I see your point. I did not saw any ask for usage of the proxy here. So really sorry. I can send Bok the IP of my proxy and he can get some back until its empty.
yoyo

Bok
10-18-2008, 08:58 AM
ah, no problem really yoyo. Personally I'm not bothered at all. Due to the alleged 24 hour recycle anyway I doubt we are doing any work that is counting towards the actual work (though it is being scored). Bok

Bok
10-18-2008, 11:51 AM
I have arranged for yoyo to take some stubs out of the proxy. There are plenty in there right now though I doubt any are less than 24 hours or even 48 hours old... I'd bet we could probably keep scoring with these stubs for 5 or more days easily. I've also fixed the issue with ppstats (the email column in one of the tables was only varchar(50) which was being overloaded by some of the longer names from yoyo.. increased it to varchar(100) and that allowed it to go through. Bok

We are not able to feed my 3 PS3s properly as it is right now.
Looks like LaurenU2 has dropped about 1,000 per day so far. :(

I have mine setup to automatically run RC5 when there are no OGR to work on so they don't sit idle, and I've noticed my RC5 output went up over 1000 for the past 3 days. :(
I also setup dnet to only hit our pproxy server. I'm down about 40,000 per day.
I guess we are squeezing blood out of turnips now. ;)

What do the others think about it?

- OGR-27 is early enough?
- Sick of seeing those 8 pages of xxx@yoyo.rechenkraft.net entries? :D
- other reasons why we could/should do it or not?

We experienced a temporary misconfiguration on one of the full proxy servers

I've updated the proxy to the latest build to server ogr27. Seems to be working ok and has downloaded lots of work.

Hey, IB: I don't suppose I could talk you into hiding my email address on the proxy stats pages? I'll be your best friend! :)

I found it by doing a google search for "lfawkes". I was wondering why I just started getting spam out of the blue a few months ago. :)

Thanks man!

If anyone would ask me, I'd suggest to wipe out the free-dc pproxy server to get fresh ogr-stubs from the keymaster.

http://stats.distributed.net/project/ogr_status.php?project_id=27
--> stubspace 3 is almost done, today only 40 are over, but the proxy is still providing a lot of stubspace-3-stubs, which I think is useless, the remaining stubs in the pproxy-buffer don't contribute to the remaining stubs of that stubspace...

anyone shares a part of my opinion?

have a nice day!

sure, why not?

the-mk

great :D
btw, could we rename the title of that page to something different?
http://stats.free-dc.org/dnet/ogr/byemail.html
OGR-25 ended long time ago, maybe we should call it OGR-NG? should be future-proof :D

I also noticed that 'last updated' is in UTC time, but says it's GMT time.
Bok has some code to fix ;)

the-mk
08-11-2009, 04:12 PM
depends on how you see it...
we usually have in Austria GMT+1, but during summer with daylight-saving-time we have GMT+2, so the time shown on pproxy-stats seem to be correct to me.

Have updated (I think) the code which generates the title on the page to be OGR-27.. Let's see next update.

I'm still processing unnecessary stubspace 3 ogr-stubs from pproxy.free-dc.org!
http://stats.distributed.net/project/ogr_status.php?project_id=27
stubspace 3 is finished!
how many stubspace-3-stubs are waiting on pproxy.free-dc.org to be processed?

Bok
08-14-2009, 03:20 PM
I don't even know how to check that ?

And as for the page title, found it, I forgot I had two copies of ppstats installed and had changed the old one.. this time it should take effect.

the-mk

Many thanks, page title of pproxy-stats are now new :D

but what exactly do you mean with that you don't know how to check that?
it is long time ago I worked with a pproxy myself, but doesn't every project has its file for input-buffer and output-buffer? - it would be the easiest to stop the pproxy, remove the ogr-buffer which holds the unprocessed stubs, start the proxy and let it fetch brandnew stubspace 4 stubs (which are 6-diff, i.e. 27/1-20-6-30-11-18; that means that after the "27/" are 6 numbers divided by a minus...)

Bok
08-14-2009, 04:48 PM
I can certainly remove the file, but you asked how many were in it.. it's compressed in some way I think, at least looking with vi or cat or head does not display anything meaningful :)

stopping and deleting now..

Bok, what value is the blocksize option in the rc5-72 section of the config?

If it's not already, can we get it bumped to 1024 please? From the manual:

[rc5-72]/blocksize: the preferred size of blocks when requesting additional workunits from the upstream server. The default is 256. If clients need smaller block sizes, then your proxy will automatically split large blocks into the needed size, however clients will not be able to request blocks larger than the size your proxy currently has available, since the proxy cannot combine smaller blocks together. Be aware that when your proxy requests additional workunits from the upstream server, this blocksize value may cause your proxy to temporarily exceed the "maxkeysready" since requests will always be done in multiples of this value.

Didn't even have a config for that value at all. I've added one and restarted, see if that works.

What is the cache size for RC5-72? We won't know if it had the desired effect until we crunch everything that was already cached and get to the new stuff.

Between me and DP, we've probably fetched over 30,000 blocks since you made the change. I'm keeping an eye on my Stream client and it's still only getting a maximum of 256 block packets so far.

[rc5-72]
logfilekeyblock=pproxyrc572
logfilekeyblockrotation=daily
minkeysready=3000
maxkeysready=10000
maxkeysdone=20
blocksize=1024

Ah, I forgot about the 20,000 block cache on my end. I'll give it a few more days and then see what comes through. Thanks!

OK, still haven't been getting any come through so I've done some more research and come up with something curious.

The proxyper manual was what I quoted from before, and it clearly says to use "blocksize" to specify the block size and that the default is 256. However, in the included example proxyper.ini it has the option "requestsize=256" in the RC5-72 section. I checked the latest FreeBSD and Linux tarballs and it was apparent for both.

Looks like a mix up on their part. I've changed my proxyper to include both blocksize=1024 and requestsize=1024 and there were no warnings about unknown options when I restarted. Please can you do the same?

edit: Looks good. My proxyper just hit the FDC one up for some more blocks and I saw "[2010-02-10 12:49:52] server: Queueing rc5-72 request for iter 1024."

crappity crap crap. I forgot to start this up again. When the server moves I'll make sure and put this in the startup script..

It's running now. Sorry Guru!

pproxy.free-dc.org is still the correct entry for the personal proxy server?
I'm currently not able to connect to it

Bok

It died about an hour 1/2 ago by the looks of it, it does occasionally crash out for some reason, has done for years..

Restarted it now. And yes, pproxy.free-dc.org is the correct address.

the-mk

Many thanks, client flushes now to pproxy.free-dc.org as I can see from pproxy-message ;)
But: is http://stats.free-dc.org/dnet/ogr/byemail.html still the valid URL for pproxy-stats? It says "Last Updated: 31 Jul 2010 10:40 GMT"
I am asking because I had to shutdown my pproxy because of power maintenance during weekends...

Bok

I never reconfigured the proxy stats after moving the boxen. Ran it once and had to kill it after 2 hours as it was still running and never ha a chance to debug it.
