I need a new laptop, but who needs a laptop when you have a phone...
Now to remember my old computer specs..
IB - Is that each, or total?
I'd be silly if I'd say total I'd like to have 300$ for each... which is quite OK for a 6 months old PS3... but that's just me speaking

Did you sell your entire stock or do you still have any left at home for crunching? Or is GPU the way you are going?
so what was the maximum amount of PS3 you had the last year? more than 8?

Too bad you bought your GTX280 so soon, major price cuts now in effect:

GTX280 is now $459.99
I'm sure everyone knows this, but since this is no longer needed as a sales thread, I'll go ahead and say it.
Electricity is a MAJOR concern when it comes to crunching. With the new options available, whether it's PS3s, or graphics cards or super-powerful AMD chips that use 150 watts but require $10K boards, power is one of the most important things you can consider. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there are still people out there that ask the developers of the various projects to make stuff specifically for P3s.

I would rather say that energy is a MAJOR concern...
when I bought my PS3, energy was a major concern: it "only" needed about 130 W for what some Core2Duo would need beyond 300 W AND the PS3 is cheaper than the whole hardware around a Core2Duo you'd need to have the same output in i.e. distributed.net-OGR...

What really concerns me is the fact that IB spent money on 10 PS3 and after a certain time he got rid off them. That's something unreal for me but I understand he can afford doing so. He is rich. Rich people have behaves that I can't understand. I am not criticizing you IB. When you buy something you need to know if you can afford the consumptions of it, that's my first rule.
Another example is the way citizens of USA waste energy, it's amazing! You don't have energy strategies, probably now with the increase of oil prices but I don't know if is it too late.
off the record: To Americans, is it viable the use of pellets for domestic heat and so on? Anyone?
Carlos
that could be an interesting discussion which we should do in another thread...
