well ever since I've been with Free DC. We simply do not have the mebership that DPC have.

They can commit larger numbers to more projects, and when they stampede they can seriously hit some targets.

So can we but at this moment in time some of the biggest crunchers we have are either taking a break, lost interest or are looking at their own targets in other projects, which is pretty much how it has been ever since DF stopped.

Also there are so many new projects out there, it used to be a choice of about 10 or 15 main projects, I wouldn't be surprised if there are over 100 now.

IT security is becoming more and more restrictive so many borged boxen can no longer be used, all makes a diference. So do increasing electricity prices all over the globe, as you know. This hobby ain't cheap.

Well at least it seems we can take over 2nd place in a month or so

A question to those that know
if you look below you will notice that free- DC has done more jobs then Any other team

Why are we in 2 ND Place and Not in 1st place

All Optimisations Tab-separated stats list
1. Dutch Power Cows 386 members, 7742758 results, 1.3943 × 1015 pts
2. Free-DC.org 65 members, [U]8883196 results, 1.0831 × 1015 pts
3. Team Anandtech 189 members, 6904080 results, 1.0831 × 1015 pts

If you look at my totals I have done 2X more jobs then the people in front of me
Why aren't I in 1st place ?

Im guessing certain jobs take longer than others, thus they earn more points.

Ya. I quit crunching DPAD some months ago when my point totals dropped drastically per result. It was right after an update of the client. I was so upset I buried every windoze box I had. Not much of a loss there! :harhar: The exhumation for this ramping up has been a hoot!

If one job takes more time then others do how can they compute points without a bench mark ?

Sometimes, you will see the same result being rerun five times to confirm its accuracy. This result takes five times longer to run (obviously) so gets more points. Thus if all my "results" were good ones, I would show less "results" but still good points totals and a better points/results average. If all my results were relatively poor, I would get lots of results but less points per result.

when one type of result yeilded on average 400mpts each. I have seen plenty recently just in the 20s and 30s.

Here are a few real numbers for you (thanks Muon Cockpit), based on a sample from a machine I'm dumping today when it reaches 100k:

Results: 1,084
Results size: 3,842 kB
Mpts: 98,634.9
Mpts/result: 90.99
Most valuable: 687.1 Mpts
Least valuable: 6.9 Mpts

The second most valuable result from the sample is only 155.6 Mpts, so that biggy is clearly uncommon. The result with the highest muon % is worth 80.9 Mpts (and it's a pretty good one, should get #11 with it, I think).

I still have a hard time understanding the way DPAD assigns points without a benchmark :bang:
I guess I should ask it in Stephens forum
