I don't know if this has ever been tried, but I think an Artificial Intelligence open-source project would be awesome.

It would have to be run on Linux to guarantee it's possible to obtain it, and the goal would simply be to make a program that is able to adjust to it's envirornment and learn.

One project might be to put a computer on IRC that can (1) cope without human intervention, (2) Makes lots of friends, and (3) the vast majority of those friends think they're talking to a human.

Another project might interview someone and attempt to come up with daily or weekly research of Internet sites that will interest the user.

How about an AI that can take a porn video and pixelate or put a black rectangle in the proper places.(obviously, the programmers on this project would be affected by local laws dealing with minors and types of pornography) This last one would probalby interest government's in general, especially China.

Has any of this ever been attempted before?
