View Full Version : WCG Goes Boinc !!
Read about it here (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4224)
You need boinc ver 5.2x and its linux only.
Seen this a few hours ago, but couldn't see how it all fits together. i.e. using an existing team etc ?
I've got the stats done for it though, once they export the xml..

I haven't run it yet because it needs 5.2 and i'm still running 4.77.
If you already have a WCG account
Go to the WCG site and login.
Go back to the main page
Click download now
Click download linux
Click on " click here if you have already downloaded the boinc agent "
It prints the URL and your key on the screen.
If you dont already have an account you need to create one and join Free-DC then follow the steps above.
BTW
The client uses SSL thats why it needs VER 5x boinc clients.

I've signed up. We'll see how this thing goes :)
Just got the first client running ;)
BTW
Had a bit of bother with boinc version 5.
It insists on creating a password file gui_rpc_auth.cfg
This has a randomly generated key in it :swear:
Deleting gui_rpc_auth.cfg doesn't do any good because boinc v5 recreates it if not found.
You have to edit it and put in a known value.
So thats a bit more admin for me editing gui_rpc_auth.cfg and setting up boincview to use passwords. :bang:
Yes, I've been doing that on my boxen. I just have one file with the password set to boinc. install the 5.2.6 version, don't start it, copy in my optimized version + that file, then start it. After that just enter the passord in boincview. Fairly painless.

Have you guys got this running on headless PXE or LTSP nodes? Is boincview a command line util; hopefully not needing an X/gui environment?
Boincview itself is windows only, it allows you to manage all other boxen (windows or linux) via port 1043...
Essential in a multi box environment I think..

Boinc is running fine on my PXE nodes.
In order to keep tabs on them all i use boincview.
Boincview is a GUI that runs on windows, not a command line tool.
You need a box running windows to use boincview.
