Yes you heard it here Free DC have LOST the top spot in Eon.

I have swung my meagre home boxen across to try and help regain our rightful place as number 1.

Who else will respond to the call?

We have a :fight: on our hands.

just run 2 or 3 instances of eon per box and whilst one may be zzz the other(s) will still be crunching.

Hence no lost time.

Be with you shortly.

Just letting my last few results trickle out to FAD, then a couple of days to tear down & rebuild some boxen, then I'll be back on it with two or three machines. Probably by New Year's.

Haven't run EON since the move to Texas. Hope any changes have been mostly for the better...

Stick an XP3200 or something onto eon and run 3 instances

with 3 instances running the non-100% usage isn't too great.

All I'm asking is 10 more boxen from the whole of Free DC to get us back on equal terms.

That's not too much to ask.

Go on you know you want to.

That is why I run another project along side it and use a program called SetPriority.

http://gilchrist.ca/jeff/SetPriority/
(Thanks again Jeff for this wonderful tool!)

I set the thread priority of Eon to -2 (default is -15) and it will use 100% of the processor. When it Zzzz's my other project (Distributed Particle Accelerator Design) will pick up the slack.

-------------------------

I cut and pasted the above from a thread in the official Eon forum. This is how I deal with the Zzzz's. I am sure you could substitute DPAD with almost any other project you wish to run.

I would run it as a secondary session to your main project.

If you run one client with the amount it is sucking at the moment it will grab a wu every 30 seconds or so.

They are pretty smal so it only uses the cpu for a short while.

I'm running 2 instances alongside simap on my x2.

Until they sort the server or allow outside teams the same access as UT Austin, who are probably on an internal link to the server, now that it has moved there, we are stuck with running this like Chessbrain.

Yeah these zzzz's suck really bad. I have 3 instances running on each of these:

AMD 64bit 3200+
AMD 64bit 3000+
Pentium 4 2.6
Pentium 4 M 1.6

I could add another 5 boxen to this project easy, but I won't bother, because this project has too many issues with downtime. I may be taking those 4 machines off this project in another day or so. I love EON some much, but I also love to hate it. If they could get rid of the server Zzzz's I would have never stopped crunching on this project.

Know exactly whatcha mean. Every time I've gotten all excited about EON, it rolls over, puts its teeny little feet in the air and DIES!

Very frustrating.
