Gang,
I let myself get behind the cpu power curve because I've been busy in the lab for the past several months. I can use some advice.
I have several very strong mobo's and PC's in general. I built them to
commercial/industrial standard in June.
They are the good Tyan mobo's, currently with Opt/250's (dualies) in each,
with 8GB ECC Corsair fast ram + L3. Mobo's are good to 3.2G Cpus with no
effort. Cooling, power, HD, bandwidth... are NO problem.
What's the best way to salvage a) the 250 cpus and b) which Cpus would
you populate with next? I'ld even consider the tripple core AMDs.
I hate gettng behind the curve. Sorry to bother you all as I normally am
on top of this sort of thing and ahead of the curve. I have longer term
plans, but those will not manifest into reality until mid 2006 with the next
CPU family.
(FWIW: I managed to get an entire fleet of 3.6 Xeon MP's trashed out
of the product line in favor of the AMDs. The company decided the
Opt/285 was the fastest & most cost effective choice based on needs)...
Now it's my turn to upgrade :)
Lastly, but by far least, I hope you all had a great holiday season :)
Thanks,
C.
PS: I have Gentoo in the workbench and it is looking nice. Words of wisdom about which OS to drop into the new config would be appreciated as well.
