Although it was meant to explain things to someone who's just starting, or perhaps dabbled a bit with only SETI or Folding@Home, I have included project related answers which I spent considerable time digging for (particularly for life science projects).
I hope it is useful for some of you. I've made an effort to check all info and facts, so please let me know (either here or via email) if you see any errors or ommissions.
