Yes, now you have a choice, dual dualies or quad quadies :rotfl: :rotfl:
Sorry, I just couldn't help it. :D

Dang... now we have a new target.

I wonder how many cores we'll have in 5-10 years? This is a weird road we're going down, I wonder how far they'll go with multi-core chips?

OK, second go at getting this to post.
4 cores will be nice but how will Micro$ treat them (and some others) this time?
Mebbe have to dig out some server os`s or beg, borrow and steal one of the Micro$ sub disks cos my brain is too old and worn to go back to Tux, despite a refresher course at IBM a couple years ago.

Sweet, so maybe I will skip the dual-core upgrade and go straight to the quad...
But I wonder how memory will be effected by having a dual-processor quad system. That is 8 processors trying to access memory. I hope the new socket format will address these kinds of things.

Can`t see any problem on AMD setups. What with Opti`s having onboard memory controllers and individual banks on most decent server boards plus multi hyper transport links.
Gotta stop dreaming about that quad quadlie......or maybe a rack of them.....:scared: :lmao:

think about it. Moore's Law will probably still be good in 5 years, and maybe in 10. Up until a couple years ago, that doubling in transistor density bought us clock speed, but not anymore. now it buys more cores.
so if you figure say, 18 months per double, there are 4 of those periods in 6 years, or 16x the transistor density (and power density... yipe!). what else can they do with 8 billion transistors?
