It's no joke.

Trying to sort it out with them.
They have been underestimating my power consumption for quite some time.

Well as far as I'm concerned thats not my problem so screw um i'm not paying.

from previous experience when my folks were charged a grand for their water bill due to a leak caused by the water company upping the pressure, you are going to have to be steadfast and beligerent. They try and first drown you in bureaucracy then threaten you with court sumons and/or disconnection.

It's :swear:

I'd get onto the regulator ASAP.

I think your calculator is a bit off.

7000 GBP = 12,252.7 USD

Is that for 1 month or how often do they bill?

The power company here will be installing a "smart-meter" on our house in the next month or so. By 2010 all houses in the province will have one but we have been "specially selected" for a trial. It will measure the power consumption and time of day. Eventually they will start charging different rates during different times of day.

I'm sure some of you out there must already have something like this. The neat thing is that all of the power usage data will be available to us so we can monitor what is going on.

Damn! :swear: That's outrageous and :looney:
I hope you can get that resolved quickly, but still, that's too much money for stupid electricty and highway robbery :bang:
That's 3.4 years worth, at what my electric bills run!!! Surely they must be mistaken.

I pay my Electric bill monthly.

If what i pay monthly is less than my consumption they adjust the direct debit upwards and conversly downwards if i have paid to much.
They usually review the monthly payment annually.

I haven't got to the bottom of what this huge bill is all about yet.
The 'fuzzy' maths is hard to decipher.
They have been estimating my consumption for a long time without a proper reading from the meter which may have something to do with it.

They have told me over the phone that there is an error and to expect a
revised bill
I hope the revised bill is more paletable.

I certainly will get in contact with energywatch.

Thats the reason I went to Scottish Powers web based system. I put my own readings in and get a bill amount which shows me whether I`m in credit or debit on my monthly account. Payment gets adjusted yearly and they don`t worry too much about deficits at the year end. Plus i got a fixed price and discounts for 3 years.
I had a major fight with Northern Electric after they were bought out by Npower and I moved house. The new house was underestimated for 2 years and meters not read and they presented me with a bill, eventually, after 6 months of phone calls and letters for £6900. I went to the regulator and they eventually threatened to fine NPower a lot of money because of their customer service problems after which we agreed a settlement which cost me a bill of £700 which I happily settled. Been with Scottish Power for 2 years now and their web and phone customer service is excellent plus I always know my meter has been read (checked twice yearly by service company) because I do it myself and enter readings on the web.
Energy Watch should help you sort it out. Sometimes they do well but ultimately, unless the fault is with the energy company, you are liable for what you`ve used. Get your meter checked though, mine was won because my meter should have been replaced as it was more than five years out of date.

PCZ - Fooking Norra! check for freaking hidden cables to next door sounds maybe someone is maybe syphoning it off either that or someone's head should roll for this monumental COCK-UP.. Like Fozzie & Shish said Good Luck with it, I only got 4 machines but got a card meter and well it's like 10-15 quid / wk for the meter.. which kinda sucks..

Card meters put you on the top rate for g&e from whoever your utility is.
Can be very expensive compared to credit meters. :Pokes: :(

Indeed mate, I would ....
Shish it's one of those "PowerCard" meters so only pay for what use I know it's a bitch but no bills and they come adjust the rate ever so often even getting a rebate cos they've taken too much off us this year.
PCZ can I have 'em Im sure I could find a use for 'em I'll just hack the power ;)

Just did the math. Your one bill is enough to keep my electric running for a little over 13 years.

I only pay on average $75/mo for electricity here in Indianapolis.

Well, my highest bill this year was only $83.97 for a month and that was with all 14 systems running......

I feel for you, thats a chunk of dough.

I would really have them audit you for a month to check to make sure that the meter isnt faulty.

My parents had a faulty meter, but it worked for them. They got free electricty when they used a lot of power. It would stop until they reduced their load....

Hopefully it will turn out good for you.
