Hey, guys, I need some advice. I'm looking to buy a cheap laptop for wireless surfing(I like to watch tv around my mother even if all she does is sleep, and she watches in the living room) and possibly school related stuff(not enrolled at the moment).

I'm thinking a P3, but anything that can handle *ahem* Linux web-surfing and email apps is great. I don't intend to run a lot of DC on it unless I can solve the hot lap problem AND it has a "Don't run when on battery power" option(I'm willing to attempt to apply a hack for this as long as the hot lap problem is solved first).

Your help is appreciated.

Now that I've looked at prices(yes, it's been 3 and a half months since I posted the last post, I'm actually BACK to being interested in a laptop), I'm DEFINITELY thinking P3.

Question: From a power draw(when plugged in) and air-conditioning perspective, are P3s worthwhile to run DC? My dad says the electricity is no problem, but I don't want to screw him too bad.

Heh, after that last post in July, I ended up buying an ipod and a slick new wearable tv.

About 3-4 weeks ago I decided to go on a multimonth saving jag(right word?) to build up my money to a more comfortable level. Depending on what comes first, $1700 after the rent is paid and I get my first of the month check(amounts bounce around a lot in my checking account), OR Christmas comes and I can play the Jason the mentally ill beggar game(I am truly shameless), I intend to buy a laptop. Since I don't know in advance what kinds of things I'll have to run on my laptop, I'm definitely going with Windows.

Advice is appreciated, although it will probably be about 3 months(Christmas), before I decide to go for it.

Advice is appreciated.
