Guys,

Wonder if you can help, I have a bunch of machines running Rosetta, two different types. One has a boot at x time of the day setting in the bios, so if they are powered off at the end of the day they come back online at 20:00.

I have one type of machine that has no setting. Any suggestion on the best way to get these to boot backup again? I have been looking into their wake on lan ability - any one know any other way?

Cheers :bouncy:

Hamlesh,

Welcome to Free-DC Team. Your machines have windows or linux?

All the machines I am currently running on are Windows based.

I'd like to bring on board another 30 or so but they would need to run Linux. Had a look at the linux client and couldnt find any useful documentation on configuring it. I take it you need to create XML files for the account you want them associated with. Its pretty poor that they dont give you a bash script to generate those files. Didnt look at it in too much depth though :)

Hamlesh,

welcome to Free-DC.

In BIOS there is normally an option to start up when power is received. I mostly set my machines to have that.

As for linux, you don't have to configure the xml script manually, when first run and attached the boinc client will automatically set that up. Or is that you want or automatically attach to a project. I'm not entirely sure you can do that as the project needs to assign a new id.

One easy way is to write a very quick bash script which basically does

./boinc --attach_project http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/

If I can help with this or anything else let me know. Which flavour of linux are you running?

If the PC's can boot up after power is restored then use a plun in timer to turn off power at 18:00 Hrs then turn it back on at 20:00 Hrs
