Ok people, not talking about our children.

In this warm snap that has just finished in the UK, what have you done for your pets. Rabbits, Guinea Pigs etc. I have moved the Bird bath onto the ground, so that Hedgehogs, and foxes can get a drink at night, (local cats to tired to move!) and for the Rabbits and guinea pigs, a 2litre bottle of frozen water to snuggle up to in their run does the trick

I think the animals are used to it here in NC :)

When doing water changes in our tropical fish tank I have been making the replacement water slightly cooler than usual.

The hamster gets his drink changed nightly with cold tap water (which he usually takes to straight away). He also gets occasional fruit treats in the summer like strawberries and apple.

The dog gets his water bowl filled up as quickly as he empties it.

And the guinea pigs really like iceberg lettuce in a tub of ice cold water.

Don`t dare run the cold tap if the cockattoo is out cos she`s straight there and stuff anybody gets in her way.
Dunno about a drowned rat but a cockattoo wet and soggy sitting on yer shoulder dripping wet after walking back then climbing up yer accessible appendages with beak and claws can be uncomfortable. Even the dog runs and hides. Unfortunately I can do neither and the favourite place is usually next to my ear and cuddled in dribbling water down my neck and soaking my T shirt.
Loads of hedgehogs living round here keep the gardens clear and get any spare dog food going plus a big pool of cool water recirculated from a tank sunk in the ground. The birds are enjoying the freedom of a bath in the pond without too much worry from predatory cats in these hot days and nights.

Try putting a hand towel on your shoulder. It doesn't get it all but it certainly helps. :) At least, it works for me.

Thanks Moogie but she attacks when a towel is anywhere in sight and then sits on the highest point, usually using my hair to nest in and arranging it to her satisfaction  .
It`s better than her trying to have a cold beer shampoo tho`in a pint you`re trying to drink or get both legs down into a cold glass of wine. At least water dries out without a stain or smell. Any cold fluid will set her off in this weather, even tea in a pint pot.

HI all Sorry about the heat. I wish I could have sent the rain we have gotten to some of you. It's been raining in the area for the last 6 days. My side finally got some of the rain. 10 inches in my area. Interstate 10 was flooded. Streets washed away. Homes flooded and snakes washed away. Yea they saw bunches of snakes moving right along with the flood waters. The local Blockbuster which was just recently built had part of the building washed away. DVD's everywhere.

The Rio Grande was just about to top its levees when the rain stopped. Good news for everyone. Glad it stopped raining since I'm about 100 feet from the downside face of a dam that is holding back some 60+acres of 20 foot deep water.

Loaded the truck for a quick getaway and was heading out the door when the rain quit and the weather guys were saying that we won't see any rain tonight. So far they have been right. It's been several hours since it rained and the water behind the dam is quickly falling. So I'm staying put but the truck is still ready.

So how was your day?

As mine is female and bonded to me she views all other females as a threat and only barely tolerates any other female, especially near me. Some she will be just friends with as long as the first rule isn`t breached.
On the other hand, she is a real tart where any male is concerned, excepting, once again, where the first rule isn`t breached.
Definitely mad as a hatter, drinks tea if it`s hot (very carefully if you tell her it`s hot, uses her beak to scoop it and radiate the heat off) and baths in it if it`s cold but prefers the wifes to mine. No cold liquid, whether it be tea, wine, beer, or whatever is safe from her when she feels like a bath and running taps are verboten in this hot weather.
Anyway, it`s raining now so she`s eyeing the little pond/waterfall and bird bath with cunning eyes. Not even frightened of the local crows or visiting seagulls but she tolerates all the small birds....strange creature.
But as I keep saying....glad I live in Engerland cos we don`t get many extremes. Mebbe an odd flood or a bit of a heatwave (never, ever gone above 100F) but none of the extremes you guys and gals get.
Uh OHHHHH....someone`s left the tap running and I smell trouble. I know that cos the dog has disappeared from under my feet very suddenly. I`m on my own and can`t move without help and I damn well know where that birds just headed off to....knew I should have locked her in her cage.....DAMN.
Yep! Here she comes. Have to hide the keyboard before it gets drowned. Can`t afford anymore of these Logitech wifi keyboards.

Hi and Bye DG and Moogie :)

Weather`s cooling but my favourite pet or "pet subject" if you can take the pun is still enjoying having her pic taken as you can see below......
After a hot hard day of flying (about 5 metres maximum cos she`s fat and lazy) around the garden, this is what happens in this weather http://www.free-dc.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=967&stc=1&d=1155047975
