Thanks Fozzie, something I need to know though, is it better to run the SOB with HT Turned off or doesn't it matter. Also if HT is left on can I run the Boinc Projects along side of SoB or will the conflict with each other to much ... ???

Welcome to SOB.

I really would turn HT on and install SOB as a service, that way you would run two instances of the client. Only SOB not BOINC.

I think to HT or not depends on how much L2 Cache you have.

Welcome to SoB!

Well I just have it installed on a P4 3.2 with 512K L2 Cache, I didn't install it as a Service but just started up another instance so 2 were running at the same time. Seems to be ok, the Process Manager shows each using 49%-50% of the CPU ...

I have a few P4's with 1mb & 2 mb of L2 Cache & will try them latter ... I'm looking to get some of those new Core 2 Duo CPU's, probably the 6600, seems to be the best value, but I just can't make up my mind on the Mother board to get ...

PoorBoy,

Please check if the two instances are running two different numbers. Thanks.

Doesn't work like that as they are just running the same k/n pair so you only get the points for one of them..

I'm with you on that, though I'm undecided on just getting the 6400 as I'll overclock anyway..looks like the Asus boards are the way to go, but they are expensive. I even thought about calling my local Tigerdirect store in Raleigh here to see if they have any in stock and picking one up today..

Some of the guys at XtremeSystems have had a 100% overclock on the 6400's and 6600's.. I'd be pretty happy just at 3Ghz personally. Looks like they are awesome at SoB too..

Seems to be 2 different current k: & current n: running

Yup, I was over there a little while this morning, most of them seem to be using the ASUS Boards ... I'll probably go that way to ...

It's not there. Just go to commandline, cd \Program Files\SB

and then

sobsvc -i

will automatically handle multi-proc / HT

Perhaps because SoB is already running ?? Stop it then install the service ?

Just to make sure...

Run SB to Set up your account and get client running.
Click on the Config Button.
Name: 'screenName' (name to look for in the stats)
Team: 60 (Team you want to join and track stats)
DO NOT enable "Autostart on Windows Boot" for service install.
Save the config and then exit the client without starting it.
THEN go to cmd line and cd to SB and run the sobsvc -i to install the svc.
You then have to start the service...

BTW, you CAN hide the client in the service manage...
I ~think it is "enable desktop to interact"
OR sobsvc -k toggles the icon visibility...
Hope you get it squared away Fozzie...

You are already in the directory c:\Program Files\SB when you run

sobsvc -i

right ?

Or wherever you installed it. Which OS? Can you get a screenshot?

Yes the SB is installed in the C:\Program Files, I had it on my D:\ drive but un-installed it & re-installed it on the C:\ drive, I use Win XP Pro on all my PC's ...

I can't get to the sobsvc -i because the to many parameter message comes up when I type the cd \Program Files\SB,
As you can see I tried typing in the command several different ways but none of them work ...

How is it microsofts fault if a user is too lazy to change the default path during install.

Really how hard is to say no to the default path and specify something sensible like c:\sob.

Anyway the easy way to get into program files from the command prompt is

cd\
cd p [tab]

Not if you have other directories beginning with p, besides not a lot of non-bash shell users know about tab-completion..

I blame microsoft totally for people not knowing the commandline :)

If you have other directories beginning with p then tabbing cycles through them all.
Tabbing is not just for bash users.
It has been in XP and 2k3 for quite some time.

It is there because folks wanted it and redmond obliged.
Shocking eh !!

Here is part of an install script I did a few years back for someone in the SOB forum that was having problems.
You can copy everything starting with @echo off and down to the end of this message and paste it into notepad.
Save it as SBinstall.bat - it will look in C:\Program Files\SB (the default install directory) and fix you up ;)
Once you have it saved, Double click it ;)

@echo off
:: Filename: SBinstall.bat
cls
echo.
Echo This script will install 2 clients at maximum settings for SOB in the default install directory.
pause

:: Change to the SB folder to run the programs
C:
CD "\Program Files"
MKDIR SB
CD SB

:: Make sure SB is not running
net stop "Seventeen or Bust Service"

:: Make sure we are in the default installation directory
C:
CD "\Program Files\SB"
if not exist SB.EXE goto ERROR

echo.
Echo Installing the Seventeen or Bust Service handler, please wait...

:: (this uninstalls the service handler)
sobsvc -u

:: (this installs the service handler)
sobsvc -i

:: sobsvc -p:4:0 :: (agressive: 4 clients, 2 physical 2 Logical processors w/HT or 4 physical or 2 Dual Cores)
sobsvc -p:2:0 :: (agressive: 2 clients, 1 physical 1 Logical processors w/HT or 1 Dual Core)

sobsvc -m :: (TOGGLE - monitors for the client being closed and restarts it)

sobsvc -k :: (TOGGLE - keeps the icons in the tray, so that you can check them)

sobsvc -s :: (TOGGLE - monitors for a stuck client and restarts it if necessary)

sobsvc -d :: (Displays the current parameters, use the TOGGLEs above to set them the way you want.)
echo.

Echo Look at the above screen, and write down the parameters and post them in the Forum
echo.
pause
goto END

:ERROR
cls
echo.
echo.
Echo I was not able to find C:\Program Files\sb.exe !!
echo.
Echo Installation ABORTED !!! Are you sure you installed the SOB Client correctly?
echo.
echo.
Echo If you want to try again, just re-run this script file from where you downloaded to.
echo.
echo.
pause
goto END

:END
:: Alls well that ends well :)
