If I wanted to learn the basics to fixing 90% of computer problems that don't involve opening the pc, can you guys recommend a book or website I could go to?
I'm thinking that I have enough common sense not to screw up somebody's computer, and there are plenty of people out there who don't understand the power of Google(sometimes I forget, myself). So, if I could get some materials that cover just about every eventuality(90%), I could help a lot of people. And I'm also thinking, after making sure their cooling is adequate, that they could get permanent tech support, by running a project for me.
Maybe I could take a chance and say that the really old computers need to be upgraded to a Sempron or better if they want help.(Or maybe I'm getting ahead of myself)
Can you guys help me with that?

the crunch for free assistance trick is working well !
the "your computer is too old, you must upgrade and i know the cheapest way" is working too
but for the book part i don't know
and one trick: use a new mobile phone number so you can switch it off (problem seems to happen late at night

Ouch, how much does a mobile phone cost per month? I think I need to do some research.
Is it possible to attach more than one phone number to a cell phone, or maybe forward a number to a cell phone? I'm thinking I could get a local number with no actual phone, and maybe forward the number to my dad's cell phone.
I guess the most important question is: How much do you pay per month for a cell phone? Especially if you're not willing to sign a contract.

I've never used a cell phone before, so I don't know. I suppose 500-1000 minutes would be best.
The only reason my parent's own a cell phone has to do with long distance rates. It's actually cheaper for them to buy a cell phone than to use landline services. I don't know the details, though.

If your gonna do this you could get skype, it's VoIP but you can get a "Skype In" number for 3 months at a fixed rate - there are parts you can buy that allow you a cordless Skype phone that works on both VoIP and a landline - it autoswitches between the 2, also you can dial out on it - Skype to Skype user is free, landline charges are well cheap it costs me 1.2p / minute or close to that to call anywhere in the most of Europe, USA, Canada, pretty much any place. Skype click here (http://www.skype.com) have a look and see.

Thanks for the link.
Fantasy situation: What I would really like is (1) a database of problems with a really good organizational method that I can (2) transfer to my ipod notes feature with a bit(okay, a lot) of work.
First I need to find the ebook though, then I can figure out what to do with it.
If I'm going to do this, I don't want to be half-assed about it. I've got a lot of hard work ahead of me.
