View Full Version : Worth going from Win2k Server to Win2k3 Server?

I have Win2k Advanced Server installed on my little home server rig. I have a free *legal* copy of Win2k3 Standard Server that I obtained from the college I'm attending thanks to my company.

Is it worth the upgrade? I popped the disk in tonight and it says it can't do a direct upgrade so I'd be looking at transfering server duties between the two O/Ses. I think I'm going to pop a 20Gb or 40Gb drive in the server to see how things are under Win2k3(hopefully I can dual boot).

I know you guys are very up to date on server software so I'm curious what your opinions are.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Security wise yes, performance wise marginal. Be sure to turn off all the Services you don't want, and uninstall all the Windows software you won't use.

Thanks IB, I guess I'll give her a try then. ;)

Finally got around to trying it out. Seems pretty nice. In my little pea-sized head it doesn't really seem much different than Win2K Server. ;) For some reason it does feel a bit snappier though.:beep:
