OK Free-DCers I need a little Advice
I picked up a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 Dual-Core 1MBx2 L2 Cache 2000MHz FSB
What I want to do is build a system to play games and run flight Sims
It will need a game port for a yoke and it needs at least 5.1 sound system
I want to OC the system way High (3000+ FSB)
It will be water cooled and have pilitzers to chill the water going to the CPU block
Also might meed Advice on a Vid Card that can work with a OC Motherboard
Any Advice ?

I cant give any advice on this topic but I can point you to a very handy article I've been reading comparing AMD dual cores against the new Intel core 2 duos. Page 18 of the article covers some overclocking concerns re: AMD.

Snap Lauren.
Just picked up 2 4400s now they`ve dropped in price so much.
Ones going in an Asus A8N SLI Premium with the NF4 chipset and t1other into an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinumwith the older NF3 Ultra chipset. Picked up a pair of those MSI boards for half the price of the Asus but they oc the same and have most of the same onboard stuff inc reasonable onboard 5.1 sound with digital out if you want to feed an external sound system. Of the current crop of NF4 boards (939 pin socket), the DFIs are the oc kings but you also need good (expensive) memory. The latest ATI chipset boards ( I prefer Asus for reasonable, qual;ity chipsets) are slightly better for Ocìng but the NF3 chipset isn`t that far behind and some bargains can be had if you shop around. I`ve been running both boards with a 165 Opteron in and they both go up to 300FSB with good stability.
Now I`ve got a replacement for my last old Asus A7m 266D with the dual Mobile Athlons in and should see some extra crunching power from my Db server and the streaming video server. The Optie sure made a difference in performance and just general usability even when heavy loaded and I expect these 2 will as well.
Certainly recommend either of the Asus NF4 A8N or ATI chipset boards (A8R32-MVP Deluxe) or the DFI boards if you want to overclock really hard and can get decent memory.

Asus A8N-SLI Premium is a great motherboard. (you can lock/control the PCI and PCIe bus speeds)
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX OC or newer. (there is one that exhausts the heat straight out of the case)
2GB of ram
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS is a great sound card
water cooling won't be necessary either ;)
Lauren
I agree with IB, water cooling is not necessary.
Given my observations of your tolerance levels towards misbehaving tech, the most likely scenario would be a drop kick straight out the nearest window when it springs it's first leak. :rotfl:
They don't run that hot anyway.
You get a nice cooler with heat pipes as standard, that really is all you need.
Get a DFI Lanparty SLI MB, or an ASUS SLI Board.
Double check the board is socket 939. most will be AM2 these days.
Try to stay IT, so fit 2 1gig simms rather than 4 512mb.
Do you already have a yoke ?
You mentioned gameport, that is a thing of the past.
Trying to get a joystick to calibrate on one nowadys is next to impossible.
Modern controllers use USB.
As for the video you have lots of choices.
Fit 2 cards and go *allls out SLI.
If you have the cash a pair of 7900gtx's is about as good as it gets.
A powerful but less finacially crippling option is a pair of 7600gt's.
I like building game PC's :)

Yes I do from when I was top dog at Mplayer I Ran the JSF game-room there
It is a Sky commander Totally programmable flight control and weapons system
I could even make it type text if I wanted it to
As for the water system leaking mmmmm I am a Plumber in the real world
And I have a iceberg kit here collecting dust.
I wanted to try to OC the system to or past 3.5 Ghz
Thats what the pilitzers are for to chill the room cooled water on it's way to the CPU block
Does Any body out there play Joint Strike Fighter or Want to ?

You will need to get an Opteron 270 to get there.
A good gaming rig and heavy overclocking is a very bad combination.
You want smooth and fast frame rates and solid reliablity.
Go with the DFI mobo, quality RAM and the best video card NVIDIA makes.
Add a Raptor HDD. ;)

So it's not so much Laurenu2 as Luigiu2 eh :rotfl:
JSF hmm not played that game in a very long time, never really got flight sims.. I did have a ye olde 15 pin gameport Joystick that was a pain to cal. but was good but I decided to try and use it on Carmageddon - was funny to say the least trying to drive :looney:
