View Full Version : First pass running empty - what now?
A poll? secondpass? repopulate the queue? State your opinion, everybody, in particular the mods?
I think we should continue with firstpass until 14M; and fix the scoring system until then:o ; it's too soon to annoy everybody again. Yours H.

H,
If you are talking about why the stats only have a few on first pass and about 1500 on dropped test, its a long story. Just be glad it is only 1500 now instead of 11500 several weeks ago. Otherwise don't know what you talking about.

I don't think there is any true problem with the scoring system. You are talking about the difference in scoring between first and secondpass?
The only true problem there is when the n difference gets too large.
Were to go next? I'm a little torn.
it's too soon to annoy everybody again you me the annoyance of finding a prime? Last time we "forced" secondpass we basically found a prime in a very short duration. That saved us countless hours of testing that k. Personally I think we should have switched to secondpass back then much sooner, also we should have stopped a little sooner or pushed a little further.
I believe we actually created some polls back and people voted.
But second pass again, this is where I'm curious... there were some "problems" with a particular version of one client. The client problems were fixed and I believe the faulty tests were reissued. This occured around 7.2-7.6M I believe I'd have to check the old posts. It would be nice to push secondpass beyond this point. But the chances of finding a prime there... I'm uncertain.
Also I believe we are due for a prime in firstpass.

As for what will happen, I believe the firstpass que will be repopulated.
I'm aware about the reasons of the dropped test thing.
And I'm glad we found that prime. That's not the point. I just think many people felt like they were forced into secondpass, against their will. And the user numbers dropped at that moment.
I like secondpass, but I just think it's better to continue a bit, to fix the scoring system:Pokes: , which will on its own make a big cry everywhere anyways, and then go to secondpass, so that the stats-monkeys (no pun intended) don't feel cheated.
If that's what will happen, it's fine for me; I just started the thread because I think it's something that should be discussed.
Yours H.
EDIT: AHA! The queue has been repopulated up to 15M. So, everything is normal. H.
Yes the que has been repopulated which is a very good thing. More importantly it's been repopulated into firstpass not dropped test. Although the decision to populate firstpass to 15M may bite us in the butt if we have another run away client.
As for what to do... my only concern is that we P-1 all tests before they enter prp.
The current level of secondpass is pretty high so I don't see any issue pushing ahead with firstpass. How far can we go with the current level of secondpass??? 15M may be pushing it, but hopefully we will remove another k before n hits 15M.
Removing another prime in firstpass is probably the best thing to do at the moment.
I do repeat however, The problem with the low scoring of secondpass tests is not as much of a problem now, b/c the n's for secondpass are larger. Should the scoring system be changed? I would say yes but again, some people will always be annoyed with the change. Especially if the new scoring system underscores tests (even if it does so correctly).
I'd like to hear some other comments however.
anyone have any numbers on how 2nd pass is doing or know of a page where we can look it up?
