A long time ago, I was witness to a debate on the best/preferred OS for seti. I was wondering what your opinions were ?
I remember someone saying that Linux s$%ted over everything thing else, but not having a linux box to test it on, I dont know.
and well how does XP rate ?? I dont want to touch that OS.. not now or for a long long time, so I have no seti experience with it.
Cheers,

quick and easy answer - the current running debate(s) seem to point to WinNTv4 Command Line Client ruling all. including running under Linux and Wine for that matter. i have seen some posting about things slowing down under XP ( all the more reason NOT to have Micro$erfs' new licensing scheme on your computer ... ).

There is a guy at TPR that has done a lot of testing on his SETI Farm and his conclusions are that the fastest setup is the winnt.exe client running on Linux via WINE is the fastest by about 5%. He is currently working on a setup for booting this arrangement diskless from a network.
