I wonder how many sysadmins said they didn't want DC apps on their employees computers because they had ignorant opinions? I'm not saying sysadmins are ignorant, but everyone has gaps in their knowledge where they think they're more informed than they actually are.

they dont want employee to run dc apps, because they want to run it for there account ! imagine, all the employee stealing there free cpu cycles ...

Me I don't see the problem if you ask the sysadmin if you can, but I think your right oh i don't know what that does or is I think I'll block it. Sophis is "Websense" at an app level :-S... I mean if they don't want users to install DC projects just freaking put it thier policy that they can't INSTALL anything sorted , it's just another way of making MONEY and TN your probably right they want the B/width for themselves..

work boxen is either a sysadmin or technically adept anyway so if they leave it 'Net enabled and there is a 3rd party who controls it then it's their own fault.

Sneakernet your work boxen and all is invisible if you are sensible.

I'd rather ask the sysadmin what their concerns are with DCing. Sometimes, you can come to a mutual agreement. For instance, if bandwidth is there main concern then you could (1) have a main server which cuts down on redownloading files, and (2) run stuff that's low bandwidth after the main stuff is installed, or (3) sometimes bandwidth concerns have to do with when the bandwidth is actually used.

That's just one example. Most sysadmins want to get along with people after all.

Yeah, I think most of them that I have met are usually on power trips and it is their way or the highway:taz:

In my experience (and, I'm a sys admin), it isn't sys admins that want to shut users down, it is management.
