My DVD burner is acting up, it refuses to acknowledge the fact that it's a DVD burner, and will only burn CDs. If you read in my other thread, in this forum, you have probably realized that I badly need to burn a DVD.

I'm not sure what info is important. I run Windows XP, and it's a Dell computer. I'm pretty sure it's a software problem, I forget how I solved it last time this happened. I have the feeling something got corrupted somewhere and a registry entry or file needs to be changed.

My dad's about to take me to Office Depot. Since I don't have a car of my own, I'm going to have to cut this post short. I'll post more info when I get back.

I've had this happen to me a lot under WinXP SP2.

Too bad it can be a lot of things. On one computer the cable was bad and I had to replace it and it's been fine since.

On another computer it was directly related to the software. I cannot put Roxio DVD on the computer I'm typing from right now because the drive will disappear off the computer entirely once restarted then if I restart again right after that a CD Drive will appear in wake of the DVD Drive.

To burn DVDs I use copies of the programs:
AnyDVD (To Remove CSS Encryption)
CloneDVD2 (To Copy the DVD)

I badly need iso burning software that isn't affected by the SP2 bug.

Can anyone recommend some? Or maybe a patch?

MagicISO works great on my WinXP SP2 comp.
MagicISO identifies my DVD drive as a CD drive.

This is getting annoying.

I'm going back to the original thread(since my new question would be more appropriate there) and hope there's a Linux download that's smaller than 700MB and can update my Linux box with a DVDs worth of information off the Internet.

Edit: Never mind, the original thread isn't the "appropriate" thread either, time to start a new topic.
