THE NEXT GENERATION disk format has been settled once and for all. Thanks to the due diligence, hard work and unprecedented cooperation between the media companies, the hardware vendors and the OS vendor, we finally have a solution. It is quite easy, Piracy, the better choice(TM).

Honestly, if any of my Christian friends asked my opinion, I'd say use p2p. Then when you're positive you've got what you want, head to the store, buy it, then throw away everything but the receipt. I think even Jesus would agree with me on this one.(If you disagree about the Jesus comment, you can PM me. I don't want to get people mad at me.)

Question: Let's say I were to buy Blu-Ray or HD-DVD movies, defeat the DRM, then sell the DRM infected disks along with a hacked copy at a small profit. Could I get sued?

Yes, the DMCA makes it illegal for you to circumvent DRM.

What happened to the Fair Use laws?

JC is quoted as saying "render unto Ceasar what belongs to Ceaesar"

NOT, "sample the wine first, and THEN render unto Caesar, IF you like it...."

I'm not talking about stealing, I'm talking about defeating DRM. Whether you're confused about my post, or simply brainwashed into thinking that defeating DRM automatically means stealing, they are totally different things.

the original with the hacked copy, so you are providing an illegal copy, against copyright law aka stealing.

I think Chinasaur was right on the money.

If you own the original, then defeating DRM under Fair Use is a right. As for downloading it before you actually own it, I never said it was watched before buying the legal copy, I just said I bought the legal version after downloading the hacked version.

But your breaking the law under the DMCA ,Chapter 12 , section 1201 (a

`(a) VIOLATIONS REGARDING CIRCUMVENTION OF TECHNOLOGICAL MEASURES- (1)(A) No person shall circumvent a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title.

Copyright law is a farce at the moment. The RIAA are currently trying to sue www.allofmp3.com for $1.65 trillion .

Also it depends where in the world you live.
Fair use laws are in effect in some countries.
Forget about Fair if you live in the US/UK though.

BR and HD are going to have a hard time getting established.
Hopefully they will fail miserably i dont want or need either.

What i do need is high capacity DATA storage, unmolested by DRM.

My own rant

Commercial TV is now unwatchable, how much longer will people carry on paying for it. ?
A One Hour show is now 40 minutes, think about it, thats 20 minutes an hour of ads.
Some popular shows are even worse coming in at under 40 mins.
If that wasn't bad enough you have the adds for other shows at the bottom of the screen whilst the program is on.

Of course all the time the general populous accept this, the media companys will carry on getting ever more gready.
Will you still be paying for TV when a one hour show is only 30 mins ?

So what options are there.

1: Wait for the DVD release
2: Download the program from the web
3: 1 and 2

Of course 2 and 3 make you a criminal.

I read an article that said the average person prosecuted for illlegally downloading video ended up settling for about $5,000 and that there is about a 1 in 5000 chance of being prosecuted. That averages out to $1. So, in my opinion, the only thing to really worry about is how it affects one's conscience.

Alas: The final choice of formats will not be in our hands. As with the VHS and Beta-max brouhaha of eons ago, this one will be decided by the providers of porn. The format they select, will the final format.

Bluerays dead then . Link (http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Sony/Digital_Playground/Disc_Announcements/1080p_Porn_Blu-ray_Says_No_Thanks/433)

In a last-minute change of porn allegiance, top adult studio Digital Playground has defected from Blu-ray to HD DVD for its upcoming next-gen releases -- and it seems that's just fine with Sony.

One-named auteur Joone, the founder of Digital Playground, recently told German magazine Heise Online that "Sony wants me to publish my films on HD DVD."
