Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated. Not having a really good one just now so I won`t be around much. Just getting over a bad cold which knocked me sideways due to "The Condition" and I`ve got a bundle of stuff to do to get the new Bunge-alow off the ground (literally) but at least we`ve got the foundations/drainage/ground heating pipes etc done so, when we finish fighting with the planning people over necessary alterations to the plans, with a lot of help from the Disabled Housing foundation (powerful people to know if you have health problems like me and the better half), we`ll mebbe have more time for the better parts of life like this site and World Wise Wobble in general. In the meantime, best regards and have a great new Year guys. I`m trying to get a proper computer in the bedroom to go with the 40in cheapy widescreen herindoors bought me for Xmas. She didn`t realise the new LCDs can take a decent desktop for games and the WWW etc., so she`s threatening to move me and the LCD into the spare room. When I reminded her we don`t have a spare room now with the family living in here with us and that the daughter has bought the house so it would be up to her....... she said "Well dear, there`s always the shed where I keep all the rest of our junk". Ain`t marriage wonderfull? 33 years this year and she still let`s me think I`m in control until I need reigning in when she can still let me know who`s really the boss...... can`t get smilies to work in this Firefox so ;-) back to the old fashioned way :-)

Thanks Cwhyl, I always check this site first and nice to hear from old fightin buddies :-) How`s life with you my friend? Sick of the travelling around yet? Just filling in some forms online after winning the "discussion" with the better half about the new screen in the bedroom and getting the son in law to cart a computer in here. Oh!!! the joys of a proper keyboard and I remember the time a 40in LCD would have bought me the latest box on the market. Life has changed tho` "sigh". ;-)

Hi Shish -

Happy B-day & best of health to you.

Well, turns out a certain distributed computing team you may have some familiarity with, decided to have a "#distributed meet" in Chicago. And, since I'm 10 mins from O'hare, I offered my place as a staging area. Since all these guys are basically not from Chicago, they were bugging me for some "micro-brewery" local chicago beers. Wha?

So, off I went to the high end "distributer" instead of my regular hole-in-the-wall booze joint, and had one of the wine guys show me around. The guy's is describing this micro-brew vs this micro-brew vs that micro-brew. I'm looking at all this stuff, and thinking "Well, it might be brewed locally or at some mom & pop place, BUT do I really want to drink a beer called "Purple Haze"???

I turn the corner, after another long row of unknown high priced suds, & then I saw it: A huge stack of Stella Artois! I immediatly thought of you, and your, and Jetta's, love of the stuff.

I asked the guy if it was any good...he gave me a somewhat disdainful look, after having spent the last 1/2 hour showing and explaining all the micor-whatevers, and then said "yeah".

I immediately tossed two cases in the cart, thought a moment, and added another one. Good enough for a start, I figure.

So anyway, I just got home & figured I'd stop by, and saw this B-day thread. I decided to post here, where I hope you can see it. Your rep is now at stake! Within a few hours, we will know if this Stella stuff is the real deal!

Till then,

Take care.

Strat

TDOW lives on... thanks Strat...how did the night go? In a daze I hope.
I drink a lot of different stuff when I`m allowed but the only thing I keep on pump for definite in the house is Stella. It`s reliable, easy to drink and not too watered down. Used to brew our own as well and still occasionally do but it used to make the wife do strange things (and I`m not elaborating on that but it involved a walk through an underpass late at night.......). Can`t beat a chunk of extra sugar and a long slow brew for good lager and I`ve been to the home area for it as my wifes father is from Bavaria and he taught me a few tricks. Mine is also usually around 15-18 proof and fairly nutty or around 10-12 if we are in a hurry to drink it but always sooper icy cold cos that`s the way it comes out of the lagers (laydown cellars from where it got its name). Lots of brewerys everywhere nowadays but trust the stuff that sells worldwide and hasn`t got a weird name. Try Newkie Brown sometime :Pokes: but don`t blame me, some afficionado will tell you where it got its nick. Not half the beer it used to be (or Brown Ale by it`s correct name), as they changed it so it would have a shelf of more than 2 weeks and could travel without killing everybody.
Anyway, nice to hear the old gang is still meeting up, been awhile since I`ve met up with some of the guys over here and DaveP has never been back to Ars since I got him and half the NW Bank`s people free tickets to the Olympia Beer Trade Exhibition and they were there quaffing and sampling for about 2 days non stop. They apparently never even noticed the place had been flooded by torrential thunderstorms and was ankle deep in water so the free beer must have been good
