This is to remind that, at this pace, we are going to lose second place. I know we can outproduce Team HD20 but please don't facilitate.

Don't vacillate, I think he means. :)

I don't know, Carlos. HD20 is coming up mighty fast. It's good that we've all the good folks we have, but...

We would have to have some pretty strong players get involved to hold them off for long. PY222, for example, or PCZ. Maybe FoBot, if he's still got some ponies. Ironbits would help, but likely not strong enough by himself. Condor is always good, of course...

Now, Dyyryath. Dyyryath could have done it single-handed, but I think all his boxen are Pentium II's and he's been MIA so long...

If the problem is the zzz's you can always run Dnet in parallel with eOn BUT:

Nov 10,2006: A new algorithm has been implemented on the server side that has reduced the downtime. The algorithm treats nearby states connected by a low barrier as a single state in equilibrium. This approximation avoids the many oscillations between these states. This work was all done on the server, during which the server would not talk to clients (giving the zzz's). Now, we should see less of these annoying delays. Nice job Lijun!

I think we can easily make more than 20k per half an hour....

Right now, I'm a bit of a NanoHive@Home addict. I might add a couple of cores to eon when I get sick of running the octoproth project. No promises, though.

Good news, we are holding them back. I think by the end of next week to have more two dedicated crunchers....

PCZ just joined and we are already outproducing them.
As I said previously we can easily grab first place, we just need a little push.

Should we panic?
The sudden increase may be temporary. Has anyone been in their forum to see where this person suddenly got all their power?

This is urgent, I need to know if we are going to defend our position.

Oh...and by the way....something from Ars forum:

The next team down has about half as many WUs, while the next team up has about twice as many. Moving up in the stats will require a major commitment. Based on the current work rates of the top five teams, I think that the best target is Free-DC. At the current rates (past week), we should be able to catch them in about a year. source (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/122097561/m/537007754831/p/2)

Shoot, that thread just reminded me why it's a bad idea to simply copy ALL your files to a new directory. After a while, that causes every instance to duplicate the exact same work.

cores onto Eon for a little while.

Might of also recruited another member to Free DC.

Too many zzzz's so have pulled the plug.

We lost second place.....I really would like to move all machines to eOn but those zzz's just :swear:

Yeah,

We were going to need a lot of fire power to hold onto 2nd, but I think if we wanted it back, we could probably do so easily sometime in the future

Soon our 3rd position will be in risk.....Monday I will try to start eOn again on a few machines...

I have been talking with Lijun Xu, Graeme's postdoc at UT, who is doing most of the program maintenance. He says he will try to keep the ZZZ's down to manageable levels. They've been actively working on the program and improvements are in the works.

Hopefully, it will be stable enough to lure back some of our high-output comrades. Rcoulter and Birdman have really been banging away at it.

I'd like it stable enough to get Ironbits, Fozzie, PCZ and a few of the others back in.

Just a quick note, third place is in risk. Ars is after us!

Carlos

Hmmm. Yup! They're after us, all right. They evidently have crunchers who are willing to put up with the occasional ZZZ's and we equally evidently don't.

Too bad. All we can do is run up the flag & hope for help. :help:

Yup, as good as the six of us are (and we ARE pretty good :) ), they're gonna squash us right soon.

Now, I know this project has its ups and downs, but I pull Lijun's chain whenever it gets too far gone, and he's been good about rebooting and/or switching targets or whatever he does to get it going again.

I got to 5th in Team, 22nd overall with just TWO boxen (occasionally three) and a lot of persistence!

We REALLY do need some help here, guys & gals! :help: Lend us a couple of boxen for a month or so, and we can smack ARS back to where they belong.

I agree - not only do we not want to lose ANOTHER place overall, but how awesome would it be to crush Ars' assumption that they will pass us answered?

Where's the team spirit, let's get this on OUR front page! We all know by now that we can run an eOn client or two alongside another project so you don't have to go all out to help.

Your welcome.
Last time I couldn't run eOn at work because I suspect they blocked 10204 port. Monday I will try and see what happens.

We really need more power in here....they are doing 11x more work than us.
The strategy is to run 4 to 5 instances per core to reduce the idle times when the client contacts the server.

HELP NEEDED.

I never thought I was important enough to be mentioned here! Thank you.

We assume nothing. We simply hope that our assault is more massive and faster than your ability to ramp up and counter. :)

Carlos - Thank you for coming over to Ars and posting that tip to help "hide" the client. I am sure some of us will make use if it.
