I've been told over at Mersenne Forum that when the n in 2^n-1 gets above 38 million that the tests will take about the same amount of time as k*2^n-1 tests right at the 10 million digit mark.

Maybe it's time to change the largest prime tests to around 32 million(not sure of the exact number).

Just a thought.

Two years back (time flies like an arrow, fluit flies like a banana) I p-1'ed about ten tests so deep that they could be PRPed. Nobody seemed to have any interest. They are somewhere in the forum, too, but I'm too lazy to search.
The server would not accept the results, though, and the tests would have to be set up manually.

Wow two years ago I can't believe it was that long ago.

Yup the major issue was the server would not accept the results. I believe we started at something like 34M or 32.4M for one particular k.

I also think you p-1 then to somewhere close to 1M if I'm not mistaken, really deep.

I would have been a good idea but there was not alot of support. Perhaps once we eliminate another k or two we could try again for one of the lower k's. The major problem is that the credit system was showing a very high rate for the tests so it wouldn't really be fair to regular users, IMHO. The other problem is who gets the money... if we were to find one.
