As you may have noticed the DPAD stats have not updated today..I get my stats from some pages MAgnavox did quite some time ago and it looks like the domain name he was using expired yesterday. I think it's been renewed now, but the pages have been replaced with some domain name squatting pages for now. Might just need time for DNS to catch up again with the renewal.

I've got a PM into him, but I'm not sure he's even been on Free-DC for some time..

At worst, I'll rewrite the stats gathering to go direct to the moun1 site..

Does anyone have any other way of contacting Magnav0x ?

I've not had a reply to a PM and have sent emails to two addresses I had for him. One has bounced back..

If I do rewrite the gathering, it will lose some of the history and everyones 'names' will also change. It appears he assigned unique id's to each user and whereas I could duplicate that, it would add to the confusion.

SO, I'd rather fix them as they are if possible..

p.s. CFS, did the DPC do a :dump: ? Looks like a good 100M+ from looking at the stats at muon1 ! Nice!

Can people take a look at these stats (http://stats.free-dc.org/new/projpage.php?proj=dpad2)

and let me know if they are accurate??

I'm doing these direct from the muon1 site and trying to take into account the quirks where the rules actually do not quite fit...

Obviously they are from scratch and do not have the same 'names' as the previous stats, not too much I can do about that as they were internally allocated my magnav0x, I actually prefer to hold them this way so they match with whatever the site has..

And they would take a day or so to settle down...

I may still tweak them over the rest of the day....

Bok

p.s. oh and the two DPC teams are merged.....which must have been a bug in mags stats as it works if the rules are followed.

LAURENU2

Good work Bok
Ya they seem about right Except that I output just a tad bit more each day then the 275,482,150 Mpts it says I did today:harhar:
:umm: You must be missing something like adding every ones output to mine:jester:

Bok
05-10-2007, 06:59 PM
As they are from scratch, there is no history, so it looks like everything is today :)

I have written a simple perl script which checks the original stats against these, matching the 'nicknames' - it would work in 95% of cases but for some it would mess up completely (where there are multiple names..) - at the end of the day (no pun intended) it will correct itself once it rolls over a few days..

If it's all ok, I'll move it over to be proj=dpad tonight

I was getting stats withdrawal for a while :looney:

Once the database has settled down over at the official site, you may want to zero out everything in your db Bok.
You had just started with a new database and didn't have much history anyways, so nothing would be lost and hopefully the graphs would recover more quickly, especially if you can tell the graphs to ignore the initial startup points. ;)

I've been quietly popping back now and again to see if this "issue" has been cleared up, but still no joy....

For a project (like most) that requires accurate, up to date and most importantly reliable stats in order to keep people interested, this is alomost as bad as losing the stats altogether. From the skim reading on this and Stephen's own board, it is clear that this was not unfortunate but a monumentus cock up which is still showing no signs of being perfectly resolved.

I have sent in what I thought would be 5M or so of results before I realised what was going on but have no real way of knowing whether they will be lost, processed or forgotten.....

Amaroque

</rant>
It does suck big time.

Stephen should have had regular redundant backups for a project of this size.

And why tf didn't he just put the drive in the new server to do the file transfers? All MB's that I know of have at least one IDE connector. So the IDE to SATA argument plain is bullshit.
</end rant>

accepting new results without having the tables correct as at a certain date is suicide.

Looks like you've got your points Fozzie... Stephen has restored the missing points for everyone in the top50 by using my last backup...which is good and I applaud that.

Of course I wasn't in the top50 at that point, so I've still lost 7M or so. (Was at 15.3M and dumped at least 1.4M on the day it all crashed..

Don't think I'll be running the project again I'm afraid..

Bok

Fozzie

the people who are missing points from your stats.

If Stephen has had to bodge the stats it seems the restore of the "backup" didn't work.

Makes you wonder on the validity of the project as the majority of what wnet missing was the newer work. Condor has recently marched up the stats so has Jeff and you.

I think I'll dump my boxen and also look at hitting something else.

Anyone fancy OGR25?

Condor
05-31-2007, 10:04 AM
I have to agree. I am not that interested in the stats per se and I think that projects who run them do so at their own convenience.
But when something like this happens the project suffers some credibility.
As participants there is little what we can do to ensure that our efforts are being utilized properly aside from looking at the stats.

I am going to dump what I have and start a slow migration over the OGR.

Bok
05-31-2007, 10:17 AM
Cool, good to see OGR getting pushed..

I'm going to stick with BOINC Rieselsieve. I like the guys running the project who try to accomodate all the users and I think now that they are starting to roll out the llr app (linux to come soon) we'll start to see the remaining 69 primes dropping like flies..

Bok said- "Of course I wasn't in the top50 at that point"

The thing is Bok, you were ready to overtake me too on both AEpocalypse and AETiglathPZ accounts before the great kaboom. Somehow I actually GAINED a few million points.

Rechenkraft.net passed 2CPU before the upgrade(?). While spying on there forums, seemed pretty excited about going up the ladder[1]!

It is possible Stephen found some missing WU that were not being credited to me but that seems a little weird as a theory to begin with.[2]

Probably the best solution is to take the "last-know-good-stats," either from the last result.txt or your sight and go with that. Any new points are lost. It's 3 weeks production, that sucks to loose it. But hey, everybody is assumed to suck equally. Or do a variation of it with the last know active crunchers(last 100 hours) gaining 1%[3] to there totals. That way a active user would be at 101%[3] of there last know total.

[1] There forum was in german, so it was kindoff hard to tell.

[2] Would imply the stats were FUBARed to begin with.

[3] I just inserted a arbitrary number here. Cound be +2% or +3%.

AETiglathPZ
05-31-2007, 12:04 PM

But these options would be the most efficient way to resolve the issue and fair(I guess).

Bok
05-31-2007, 12:23 PM
Hi AE!

Long time..

True, think it's too late now and I'm not sure Stephen cares that much anyway..

Looking in the top 10, it seems Lauren gained nearly 70M and amdxborg gained 40M, now I know Lauren had a mighty dump lined up...was it this big ?

I'll check in with Johan to see if his gain was legit, but it just tells me that there are possibly multiple discrepancies out there.

I could probably do some analysis on my before and now database but it would be a bit of work.

You can use the linux version of the LLRNET, you don't need to wait for the BOINC LLR application. Here you are:

It seems that none of their usernames begin later than "L" in the alphabet (apart from those who start with a symbol). We're now suspecting our office's NAS backup box has dodgy firmware (or the network), so some files were backed up with part of them made of zero(NUL) bytes.

The total lost was small on a project scale, but a significant fraction for each of these users, so I hope they'll forgive me for the inconvenience.

These changes should appear in the next stats update.

Are you guys boycotting DPAD? I have some boxen to dump, then I'm not sure if I'm going to stay or not. The reason I'm asking, is because your team stats are way down for the day.

On another note, just cuz the stats are fubar'd, doesn't mean the research is. :umm:

I think we are just waiting to see how things happen over there.
I still have it running but not U/L -ing on some nodes

I will turn some of my node to other things now that I took #1 over
:umm:Maybe let GOD hold it for a bit:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

I wanted to dump earlier, but the stats snafu kept me holding back. I may just dump it, and move on.

I'm thinking about WCG.

Alternatively, if Stephen is incompetent enough to repeatedly mess the stats up, who says the results are any more safe in his hands?

OGRp2-25 should finish before the end of the year, but there is still plenty of time to climb into the top 10, especially with more firepower.

Yes OGR seems vary stable the same pointage every day Never had that on a DC project before

It was DPAD that had the problem with Adding points

Yes I'm aware of that. I've made attempts of running DPAD many times in the past. Stats lossage is something you come to expect from DPAD after a while. It happens at least once a year. Granted it's usually not this bad, but it's enough for me to never look back. What a shame too, DPAD was my fav dc project for the longest time.
