From what I've heard, if a program has a Linux port, then running it on the Mac involves compiling it locally. The great thing is that if there are two or more Macs with similar specs, only one of those people has to go through the hassle of compiling it, then they can post it on the web for other people to download.

I don't think there are really that many versions of Mac Intels. I know there are at least two. What we really need is a Linux geek who owns a Mac Intel.

Not sure that's exactly right - I've seen people attempt to compile several linux sources for OS X on intel with mixed success - usually it requires massaging the code, changing some linker options, etc.

In any case, that's all fine and good, but nobody has the source (except the project admins) and last time this was discussed nothing actually came out of it.

BTW, I'd like an updated BeOS build too please - especially for use on Haiku.

I never said it was easy, I said it was possible. Big difference, lol.

Between the XBOX 360 fiasco and all the Vista cock-ups, it looks like Apple is in a really good position to gain market share. And, yes, I know that they are already taking full advantage of the opportunity. :)
