My quad-core/motherboard combo refuses to boot. The RAM has been tested with Prime95 for 18+ hours with no errors. We sent it back to Tiger Direct, thinking it was bad, but they sent it back, saying it wasn't. My dad sent the following synopsis to me to send on to you.

installed board/memory/new PS(500-watt). computer tries to boot, hard drive is accessed, but then it dies. The led display codes scroll through and end most of the time with a code 75. Edit: Sometimes LED code ends in 7F.

I wish I could work on the problem myself, but my dad is the only one I know with any of the knowledge I need in meatspace, and refuses to play the teacher. Ironically, he complains each time that this is the "last time" he is going to help me, when I've made it very clear that I wanted to learn from him.

The motherboard is XFX nForce 680i SLI motherboard.

Any help, or attempt at help, is appreciated. If, by chance, it is officially decided that the motherboard is bad and I can't convince Tiger Direct to take it back, I'm willing to go after another motherboard(obviously not from Tiger Direct) to try to get a working computer.

I take it that you have connected both power connectors to the mobo? I.e. also the 8pin right next to the CPU.

Sounds to me that is exactly what you haven't done.

Good suggestions Bok.
Also check to make sure you have the most current BIOS.
Do you get any 'beep codes' and can you press F1 to continue?

My dad says he connected both the 24-pin and the 8-pin connector. We haven't even gotten to a point where we could mess with the BIOS.

try a different video card ?
My dad has an old man's bedtime(8pm), so we'll experiment with the video card idea tomorrow afternoon. But he claims he tried that idea before the motherboard and cpu were sent back to Tiger Direct, then sent back.

Well Tiger Direct is known for bad parts. The only reasonj I deal with them is they are only 15 miles from the house. I have had 2 dead mother boards and 1 dead video card. So it still could be dead parts.

sORRY FOR THE CAPS, THE KWYS ARE SOAKED IN COKE.
THE BEEP OR LED CODES ARE NORMALLY IN THE TROUBLESHOOTING AREA OF THE MANUAL. NOT USED ANY XFX AND NEEDS A SERIAL NUMBER FOR THE WEBSITE AND SUPPORT.

We've gotten to a point where the board seems to be booting fine, judging from the codes, but the display refuses to work.

I've got some irc chat stuff I could post, since my brain's too fried to remember anything.
