Guys, I am going absolutely nuts over trying to figure out what Popular Mechanics is talking about when it expresses things like energy savings and the amount things cost.
Obviously, there's something I'm not understanding about how they're describing things, but I can't figure out what it is. For instance, a few months ago they said that solar panels would beat the cost of coal because solar would cost about $1 per kilowatt. Considering the fact that my dad's power bill indicates that he pays less than 5 cents per kilowatt, this makes no sense to me.
If you guys have seen stuff like this before, could you possibly explain the "code" to me? Popular Mechanics is usually a great magazine, but whenever they try to express energy savings data, I'm left scratching my head.
