Just horsing around with my MacPro Quad Xeon 2.66Ghz (two dual cores) via bootcamp into Windows XP and
my game box with Quad AMD Opteron 285 2.6Ghz (two dual cores) with one Nvidia 8800 GTX (PCZ has two in his! :swear: )
;)

If you dedicate those machines only to eOn you better run several eOn instances, 5 to 7 per core.

I'm running 8 on the 4 processor systems and 16 on the 8 processor system.
Don't know for how long, but, that's what's going on over here at the moment.
For my buddy Paratima, and Free-DC of course. ;)

The 4 processor dual core only eats 470 watts. Very efficient...
The 2 processor dual core game box consumes almost as much.
Never tested the MacPro dual core xeon for power consumption. hmmm

Just to let you know:

Running 5 on one P4 3.0GHz
Running 7 on another P4 3.0GHz
Running 7 on an AMD 64 3000+

Carlos

Edit: A few days ago I tried 8 instances on a core duo machine but it wasn't enough when the zzz's came.

Still more ZZZZzzzzzzzzz
I turned them off as I proceeded with Cosmology...
I've cranked a few back on now that I'm backing off Cosmology slowly...
Still just wandering around, wondering what I'm doing and what I might want to do...

You're all right, IB. I don't care what they all say! :jester:

I've been wandering a bit myself. I give some grief to Scott, over at Cosmos. Then I wander over and rant at Lijun, in EON. I've got some boxen running here and some running there and a couple just lying in the shade. :sleepy:

Carlos has a point, though. Wherever you go, you sure make a splash!

Ya know, Ironbits, in point of fact, if we could keep you and Lauren in there pitching, along with our usual suspects, and we all apply some pressure, we could probably put some serious catch-up on Ars.

It would break my heart to kick some Ars, even if just for a while. :smoking:

PS. I beat up Lijun again and Eon's running, again.

Nice!!! I'll crank it up a notch then.
Ars it is :D

I'm going to be busy the next couple of days, but I'll spend as much time as necessary keeping an eye on the "upness" of EON's rather cranky server. All my boxen are EONized as of now. Yeehaw!

There's only one thing better than an 8800gtx
2 of them :rotfl:

That is until the PSU explodes.
Yes explodes.

I was playing bioshock late at night lights off.
You know getting immersed and BANG, damm nearly *rapped myself.

I'll give the eon client a go again but if memory serves it sleaps more than my cat.

Whoa!!! Glad you didn't get burned up!
BioShock with dx10 and Vista 32bit works smooth as butter on a single 8800gtx @ 1920x1200,4xAA on the 30" Cinema Display ;)
I can only imagine what 2 8800s could do!

I need a new mommy board and some quad processor something or other.
Hesitant to make that jump because of all the new toys coming out...
I'd love to run dual video so I can go up to 2560 x 1600 widescreen with no hit.
Not many use 2048 x 1280, and with 1920 x 1200, at least I can see the bastards before they see me, sometimes, in some of my other favorite games like Q3 Team Arena, Q4, HalfLife series, Far Cry, Wolfenstein, Call or Juarez, UT 2004 etc.
Any other games you would recommend I try? (considering my list above)
I don't like to play online much, lots of killer bots is cool tho :)

Eon, just fire it up, minimize it and forget they are there - totally ignore them, faagettaboutem
Works well with 2 eon clients per core, and dpad on automagic.. ;)

I seem to able to pull some good numbers seeing I am only running 16 hrs a day right now
We are Strong if we push as one
And right now we have 13 members working this project Thanks to TeeJay:thumbs: for joinging in your a TRUE Free-DC'er:cheers:

I like FPS games.

Fear Painkiller Quake Doom that sort of thing.
Oh and Oblivion.
Haven't played Prey yet so i'll probably load that up next.
PC Gaming is a bit dead at the moment though not many new release.
Crysis will be the next biggie.

I still use a 22" CRT for my gaming, old fashioned i guess.
1280x960 with all the graphic options on high.
I'll probably get a big wide screen when the ilyama dies.

Me and Vista don't get along.
Gave it every opportunity to impress me and it failed.
Still if DX10 kicks off then i wont have much choice.
Did load up vista to see what Bioshock looked like in DX10, looked exactly the same as DX9

BTW
Did you rescue all the Little Sisters.
You didn't harvest them did you :D

IronBits, you can merge your account into TeeJay's one....

PCZ, welcome back! I still have to download...ups...to buy Bioshock but is it a good game? I saw the review on PCZone magazine and it looks amazing.

Carlos
The game is good.
Needs a modern video card with shader 3 support.
ATI x1300 and up, nvidia 6 Series onwards.

Also
If you are going to buy it be aware there is a bit of controversy around the protection used by 2kgames.
Limited installs and online activation.

BTW
Started up a few clients, seem to be working in between the ZZZ's

PCZ would also like to reafirm that he has absolutely no connection what so ever to PCZone magazine.
PCZ has been my handle for a long time and is a shortened version of my amateur callsign G0PCZ.

Sorry Carlos
comment was not aimed at you, we already discussed it as you said.

Others may have put 1 and 1 together and made 3

Anyway get the game

I think I killed everything I saw for awhile, until I read you could harvest them, dunno what good they'll be in the end, I just hope they don't start screaming all at once! I don't like to many key combos and to much of a story line, just wanna kill anything that moves, bigger the better :rotfl:
dx9 vs dx10 wasn't the issue for me, it flat would not run with dx9 and XP, so I drove down to the store, picked up Vista, which put dx10 on here which allowed me to at least fire the beast up so I could kill something. :)

22" in glass is awesome - I'm sure you can notice a huge difference in quality, I'm at the stage where bigger is better, just can't see them little things jumping around. ;)

I still HATE Vista, but it was an evil necessity. I just built me an XP box out of my MacPro quad Xeon using Bootcamp :p

Have you seen this article? http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/bioshock_directx10_performance/
:|ot|: ;)

I've added double the clients per cpu on Eon. :hifi:

Mr. Bits is right, PCZ. To watch your EON clients is to die the real death!

Set 'em up. Fire 'em off. Go play Quake.

I know what my boxen will run in a half hour when the client is running right. I check up every couple hours and if my output is below a certain level, I know the server has stalled and I hit the Email EON button. Otherwise, I do something profitable. Or at least more fun than watching clients.

Eon clients are all sleeping now.
Luckily i've got muon running on the boxes as well so that gets all the cycles when Eon sleeps.

IB
If you wan't lots to shoot at get Painkiller.
Picked up the Black Edition recently.
Only Strategy element in the game is how to kill the end of level boss.
It's a 2004 game so you'll get a zillion frames a second on an 8800 :D
Does widescreen OK

BTW, I don't play games, my father does! His dual-core machine is to play games not to run any DC project:bang: .

All my eOn clients are running, maybe I have more instances than you.

Here is a good one for those wondering what Widescreen gaming is and the differences with/without it.

Tell your father, I have a dual processor with dual cores (4 cores total) running 16 Eon clients and 1 DPAD with auto core select, and still do all the high speed FPS gaming without any lagging.

He can contact me directly if he wants to.
A gaming rig is perfect for DCing when you're not gaming.
