My SoB-client cannot submit any work anymore.
Is there something wrong with my connection or is there a problem with the server?

[Fri Jan 18 16:30:02 2008] couldn't report to server, retrying in 1200 secs

Same here. Been like it for quite a few hours.

The DNS should resolve the same IP-address for sb.pns.net as for www.seventeenorbust.com, but is not. The IP-address of sb.pns.net is wrong.

And in addition to joh14vers6: If you use www.seventeenorbust.com as host (port 1717), your clients will be able to send/receive tests.

Unfortunately this won't fit in the host field (windows client).. you can use the IP (69.9.160.186) or edit the registry. I've enabled sb.qik.nl also as DNS.
The best option is probably to recompile the client with larger host field and a xxx.seventeenorbust.com address as default.

You could also edit your HOSTS file right?

Yes, I did that.

A quote from two years ago:

You would think we would have learned last time but we forgot again.. It's been renewed for two years this time and should start working again as soon as it's expired from your name servers.

I'm able to resolve everything here w/o any problems. Many apologies for this happening again..

Alien88

No, sorry you did it again.

Was this a plot from Ken Brazier to convince us using SBqueue? :hifi:
And still no word from Louis or anyone responsible for the project on reclaiming the domain? :Pokes:

Well, I've got nothing better to do so I tried to facilitate a correction. really bizzare old jazz music- 20's-30's or so from the quality. No, wierd - it just came back up while I was waiting or while I spoke to the CS rep! Woot for the IP-addy!

Did anybody heard anything new? Can anyone update what is going on with the network issue? Are we just waiting for the DNS to propagate or are we still the same as of 48 hrs ago?

Thanks.:)

Lol, another team member of Team Switch (DPC) mentioned that this sounded a little familiar to him so he went to search this forum and :
http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10713

Apparently 2 years ago the same thing has happened before.
And not only that, Alien88 apologized in 2006 that it had happened again, leaving it to us what might have happened in 2004 to this account. :jester:
What about learning from your mistakes? (or mistakes from other people for that matter) :rotfl:

Thanks Meloentje for making my day :)

I remember going through this last time, so I wasn't surprised when it happened again. Disappointed, but not surprised.

I'm going to have to head over to my alma mater tomorrow and change the host on all of the computers they let me put SoB on. What a nuissance!

Edit: I just fixed the host on my mother's computer and explained to her why I was doing it. She just laughed and said, "Ask them if they've ever heard of a little program called Outlook". Sending emails and keeping track of appointments in Outlook are pretty much all she knows how to do with a computer. She thinks it's pretty funny that a computer-illiterate senior citizen can keep track of important dates, while a bunch of university-educated computer nerds keep losing their domain name.

Well, you can use SBQueue as a proxy (accessing it by IP or maybe even your own domain), so next time you only have to change the SBQueue settings. ;)

Looks like I may have to. The school's firewall blocks port 1717, so I've been using sbp on port 80. I can't even ping 69.9.160.186. It looks like seventeenorbust.com isn't setup to receive results on port 80, so we're still unable to send in any work.

Since Alien88 said he got the problem resolved at least until 2017. How much longer my remotes would be unable to connect until the new DNS is resolved? Couple of hours? On stats page seems like boxes are finally able to get wu. I wonder how of many of them did the flushdns command?

EDIT: Never mind, I asked one my remote boxes to be rebooted and it seemed to picked a new wu. Eventually as they logged off and on they would finally reconnect.:)

sbp.pns.net should have IP 69.9.160.188

Fantastic! 69.9.160.188 accepts port 80. I'll get the school back up and running tomorrow. Thanks Joh!
