I dont know what to pic.. I'm doing a BE in Comp ENG, and I have to chose a elective and preferable from this list. (I'm 3rd year by the way)

200-Level
CSCI212 Operating Systems 6
CSCI213 Java Programming and the Internet 6
CSCI214 Distributed Systems 6
CSCI235 Databases 6
300-Level
CSCI311 Software Process Management 6
CSCI313 Professional Programming Practices 6
CSCI316 Network Computing 6
CSCI322 Systems Administration 6
CSCI323 Artificial Intelligence 6
CSCI324 Human Computer Interface 6
CSCI325 Software Engineering Formal Methods 6
CSCI334 Interfacing and Real Time Programming 6
CSCI336 Computer Graphics 6
CSCI337 Organization of Programming Languages 6
CSCI361 Security 6
CSCI399 Server Technology 6

So many choices.. actually I think I can narrow it down as I migth not have the prerequistes for some of the 300 levels.. so I might just do another 200 level this year.

Any suggestions ?

This is the subject description.

CSCI214 introduces basic concepts of internetworking and distributed systems. Physical communications media are introduced, then the focus shifts to network protocols (TCP/IP), then client-server model and the sockets interface. Other topics to be covered include network addressing and security (firewalls). Real-world programming examples from Unix and Windows-NT environments will be presented. Students will undertake laboratory exercises on Linux-based PCs.

i get to experience the joys of this selection next year (silly me for doing a double degree) and i really wanted to do computer graphics, which is c programming with opengl, but it looks like it runs only in spring session :( looks like it's going to be java for me then :/

Every computer professional in school should have a decent course in Java. Not Java 101 where you learn Yet Another Language (tm), but a course where you learn either O-O concepts, how the JVM is designed, or both.

The JVM is a remarkable achievement and probably presages much of what is to come in this industry.
