I was attempting to figure out the maximum number of shares possible in BOINC. Apparently, the developers decided that the share value deserved a whole kilobyte(kibibyte for the anal-retentive, like me ;) ) of space.

So, if you want to give a project a whole lotta shares, just make sure it's less than 1.79*10^309, mmmkay? If you're super-geeky, how about giving your favorite project a number of shares equal to the number of atoms believed to be in Jupiter, and your second project a number of shares equal to the number of atoms believed to be in Saturn. (I'm pretty sure Jupiter is bigger, but don't quote me. For the love of God, don't EVER quote me. The idea that my random rantings could be beneficial to society is scary, kind of like suggesting that Stephen Colbert lends something to the political process)
