Stephen has posted (http://www.stephenbrooks.org/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=724606111&f=144606111&m=269605939) another best250.zip file which seeds the newest best muons.
To use the new seeds:
Download the zipfile (http://www.stephenbrooks.org/best250.zip) .
Terminate the client.
Unzip the the new file over the old results.dat
Restart the client.

This will give you some high-yield (1% and beyond) muons that are awarded bonus points!
What are you waiting for? Go get it! :D

I chose to append the Top 250 to my .dat file on one machine and overwrote on the other. Jury's out on which produces better results. Right now the appended file is in the lead (but it's also a faster CPU).

I'd be interested in finding out what other people experiences are.

i unzipped it over the top as IB said above

i "seem" to be getting less "points" than before :/

but i don't really understand how this all works or how often the stats update, so i dunno :o

Because of how the genetic algorithm works, appending the file may give you better results. (I highly recommend you go and read the posts on their message board; it helps explain a lot of this stuff.)

The technical report gives a good overview of how the algorithm works.

You may find it here:

http://www.stephenbrooks.org/ral/report/

Basically it takes your best results and tries to tweak them using data from your other high scores. He also throws in random values and mutations to insure that the process doesn't get stuck in a dead-end rut.

You should find that your cumulative average and long term moving average should always be moving up.

As the values grow, so does the complexity of the process -- hence the longer processing time.

Moved from 36th to 9th overall using the seed file. 3rd best muon transfer. Those bonus points help SO MUCH. Get this file...

Hey Everyone,

There's a new seed file dated 8/21/02 on the project web site.

Happy Computing.

what is the correct way to append the files?

Both the results.dat of the client and the seed file are text files. Just open both with a texteditor and append the new seeds to your results.dat.

Or exchange the old results.dat with the new seedfile. This may lead to worse results, but don't ask me why :)
