My PC has suddenly started to log me off for no reason, it just goes back to the login box which is obviously annoying IF i'm doing stuff as I run project if / when I want and not as services and obviously IF I'm downloading then that screws the download up..
Any thoughts only recently started, think it's profile related I've not got SP 3 in so it's not that.

gopher_yarrowzoo does your Computer reboot or just log you out as a user
Both can lead to the same place and hard to pin down unless you see it happen
If you have a 3.5 floppy put a non system disk so your PC will Hold at the boot
I have had Power supply's that made this happen as well as CPUs with burned out heat grease Or even the Fuss of death that can clog a heat sink

It's going to the login prompt not fully reboot thus the "warm" reboot i.e windows doesn't stop running.

If it happens at work, does that mean you can go home? :hifi:

Oh yeah, and Home or Pro? 32-bit or 64?

It's XP Pro 32-bit, it is on a AMD 3200+.
Now here's the wierd thing it's stopped doing it now!

Vista Power Options: Peformance
Never Hibernate ... never sleep...
XP: power always on, turn off monitor in ~10 minutes... ;)

Yeah no hibernate on this PC, it does it now and then, no idea why can't be a bad bit of memory as I've really loaded up the PC and no crash then it just does it totally random - could be temp, could be something else no idea :(... Maybe a fluffed dll somewhere but I don't got XP with SP2 slipstreamed on to it anywhere.

check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and make sure Userinit value is listed. Data field should be c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe. If that value isn't there and you need to create it, use String Value when you create it.

This has been resolved basically. Think combination of too much peek power draw on 12v line, there was only 20A available but I'm suspecting a lot less than that swapped out PSU from another machine which I'll get up an running again as soon as well erm I can source a decent PSU for it, dust and plenty of it no idea where it all comes from computer attracts it I think and fairly tight enclosed space with poor ventilation and you have disaster..
I've replaced the PSU, removed a load of the dust, closed it up once more since I did have it open to aid ventilation in the enclosed space it was in,and it seems to be much happier now, with only the very minor randomness which I suspect is programs exiting badly and XP borking and rebooting the PC, so damn annoying but still it works! 99.9999% of the time.
