I got a number of emails today from Newegg, Tigerdirect and such. Seems they are available..

Not me though

Not with Christmas on the way.

My pal over at Xtremesystems (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=206572) got one early and did some testing... VERY impressive, especially for the power load..

and very easy to overclock fom what I read.

Intel have "pinched" AMDs proper quad structure and added back Hyperthreading. Even with Deneb/Shanghai on the horizon i don't see how AMD can respond. Then again we didn't see Athlon 64 coming a while back.

A hell of a lot of cash for the chip and the new mobo. Not for me a for a very long time.

Might have a look next christmas.

Hmm just been reading over on El Reg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/17/convey_super_debut/) about a new super computer that well runs on *nix - start price is a bit much though $32,000 but then again you get a shed load for it - no lack of memory on either side of the fence with this beauty and it comes "customised" for your particular needs

I'm gonna buy one..... in probably mid to late 2009 when the prices of the motherboards come down, not to mention the memory. I can't wait!

Some of them Asus motherboards are just plain sexy

I'm (very slowly) buying new bits for a new server/ws at home. Just got the 4850 graphics card so a ways to go yet:o.
I wish the $ was still 2 to the £ cos I'd send you the money Lauren and you could send me the I7+memory+Asus board from your side of the pond. As usual, we're still on parity or worse ($-£) on pricing. I'm not in any major hurry so I guess my system will get put off till 09'ish. Can't see the board prices dropping much as they've all mostly doubled over what a decent board used to be in the last year or so.
Still, the 4850 is running F@H very well but is also replacing my central heating just now:clap::thumbs::).
Guess it's wait an see a while longer but I may move soon because I'm down to 2 systems here as most of the rest have been donated to an organisation I support locally.
