View Full Version : Can the windows service be run in offline mode?

I want to run the client on some winxp machines, but a restriction is that they need to only connect at night. I was planning on running them as a service, but from what I can tell from the documentation it requires you to be online. I don't have a machine to test this on, so I need to know if that is correct, and if so, is there a way to easily run DF where I can run it in offline mode?

Thx,

Scott

At present, service boxen will try to connect. If they can't connect, they will chug merrily along, but they will make the attempt. We have requested an enhancement to the service params (service.cfg) to allow no-net running.

Howard, you rock.
Anyone with a win2k/xp machine care to test and post here?

If I have time tonight I can probably try it. Not sure how I will test it other than leaving it on all night though and seeing if the results files are piled up in the morning.

Does anyone have a new readme? I still have the old one, and it doesn't have what the nonet option is to be called in the service.cfg file.

I just went over the latest readme. I'd be delighted to test it, but I can't find instructions for it there.

:help: HOWARD, how do we do this? :help:

Here are the options for the service.cfg file:

useram=1 makes use of extra RAM for improved speed (see -rt option elsewhere in this readme); default is useram=0

priority=### where -20<=###<=20 sets the priority of the task just like the -p option (20=passive, -20=aggressive); default is 20

progress=### where 0<=###<=100 sets the update interval for the progress.txt file, like the -g option (0=disable) default is 50

uploadfreq=### where 999<=###<=10000 controls the upload frequency like the -s option; default=999=assigned from our server

connect=0 disables internet usage - use this if you are on dial-up or temporarily unable to access the internet for some reason; you must eventually remove this to upload your data, but your work will be buffered until then; works the same as the -if optionl default is connect=1

uploadonly=1 behaves as the -ut option, instructing the program to upload all buffered work and then terminate. Do NOT combine with the connect=0 option! Default is uploadonly=0

Thanks, Welnic!

Aaaaaah! Not in the readme on the web site... in What's New in the download. Devious, that's what.

When did the upload only option get added? That is another nice feature.
